  "Peggy, I would like to share some awesome mask-free experiences I had over the last two days in multiple stores with you. (in CA)

 But first I would like to give you some awesome news you may not be aware of, regarding Safeway grocery stores. According to Dave the assistant manager at my local Safeway store corporate has issued a directive to all of their managers. They are to approach anyone in their stores that is not wearing a mask and politely ask them if they would please wear a mask, they are instructed if the patron states they have a medical exemption to accept that answer and say thank you for shopping at Safeway’s today.

  I went to Lucky’s grocery store first I went into the store without a mask expecting to be confronted at the front door. To my shock, I was not. I proceeded further into the store and an employee said do you have a mask I said no ma'am I do not, can I speak to your manager? Eventually, an assistant manager approached me. I was incredibly shocked he was polite and respectful instead of confrontational he said, "Sir, Can I get you a mask?" I said no thank you and explained to him my situation. He understood and had no problem with me I continued shopping.

  Wow, what an awesome feeling it was not to have to wear a mask. And I left the store without any confrontation from any employees or any of the fellow shoppers.

  Next, I went into my local Smart and Final store, I was shocked and amazed that as good of an experience that I had at Lucky’s my experience at Smart and final was even better, not a word from anyone, not even a customer.

 The third and final store I needed to go to was Target. With the exception of a husband-and-wife couple that was shopping, not one single person confronted me are said anything over my mask-free shopping experience at target.

 However, as I was walking down the main aisle in the middle of the store a husband-and-wife was coming from the opposite direction I noticed they were looking at me. They were both wearing masks, however the husbands' mask was pulled down below his nose and halfway down below his mouth.

  As we approached each other he leaned over to me and said thank you so much for not wearing a mask I said you are welcome I was shocked that the only people that said anything to me about the mask issue thanked me for not wearing a mask.

 This brings me to my final awesome experience not wearing a mask that I had today February 26, 2021, at Safeway’s I needed to take a family member shopping today. Everything started out wonderful, and nobody confronted me until I needed to use the restroom. Two employees were standing by the door both of them insisted that I needed to put a mask on. I stated I had a medical exemption and went into the bathroom shortly after coming out of the bathroom I was confronted by a rude and aggressive security guard. I try to explain to him that I had a medical exemption. And I showed him the paperwork that I brought with me. He was not having it; he insisted that I leave the store immediately. I politely said "Sir, that is not going to happen." He assured me it was going to happen one way or the other. I suggested that he would need backup to enforce his threat and that he should probably call the police.

  Less than a minute later, David the assistant manager showed up. David asked the security guard what the problem was the security guard in an aggressive tone explained the situation to the assistant manager. David thanked me and apologized to me and said I was more than welcome to shop in his store, and then he proceeded to in no uncertain terms tell the security guard that he was completely out of line and that he was factually wrong.

 I told him I was not upset that everyone deserves a second opportunity he thanked me for being so understanding and then shared with me Safeway corporate’s new directive regarding the mask issue."
