Learn the laws and apply them correctly. That's it. You don't need a lawyer to win in court and you certainly don't need a lawyer to understand and practice the laws either. If that was the case, then we'd all be able to run red lights and turn left on a right-only street and say, "I'm not a lawyer, I don't know the laws, therefore I'm innocent!" The very fact that a citizen's arrest can be made in all 50 states is proof enough for me that each of us are not only responsible but expected to learn, know, and understand the laws of our country.
