It was about this time last year that I was arrested with a friend, a mother of two young children, right here in Southern California at a dollar store for being a friend of the face, for demanding equal rights, for standing my ground saying "I will not veil my face! Not for you, not for the person scared of fresh air, and certainly not for your illegal policy!" It's hard to fathom an entire year has gone by and the absurdity of it all continues to permeate throughout the nation, eventually seeping into the crevices of our daily lives. I just passed by a small little hole in the wall dry cleaners that had a sign "No shoes, no mask, no service. Vaxxed or not" and another sign at a dog park that wrote "if you're feeling sick, do not come in. Stay 6ft apart". Did you know the Grand Canyon national park requires you to self harm? Did you know that many of the municipal pools in CA and NY, indoor and outdoor, all demand that you cover your two airways when you're NOT in the water? Am I the only person that finds this astronomically ironic?? I write today in hopes of bringing back the spirit of victory and hope as we had when all this hogwash first started and to encourage all of us to keep continue fighting, including the fight to bare our beautiful faces. Peaceful non-compliance - we're just not going to participate in the hogwash. #NeverHave #NeverWill! A tool I wish I had last year is this awesome document Peggy has created for people who love the face (and their thinking ability)! It's a document that states you have the right to breathe and a right to your own body and lists all the laws with the corresponding penalty if broken. You get it notarized and simply show up at places of public accommodations with it. We've already had so much success with it from CA & NY, we are in the process of getting it done for the rest of America. We've had success at stadiums, event venues, Costco (of all places), libraries, the DMV, the list goes on and on. Send in your success stories, too. We love to hear them! Because of that education I got my accommodation approved by Nike through 4/8/22 to work remotely, will reevaluate again at that point. I've been working there for 21 years in IT. (They included a condition that I have to get tested and wear a scam if required to attend an event in office, might have to fight that too at some point 🙂). Took them 2 months, had to respond to a clarifying question in between, but all worked out so far. May God continue to bless you! One thing I learned is that God again answered my prayers by leading me to you and Pastor David. Your teaching style, the forms, the actual Title VII, EEOC and other documents, have filled me with greater faith and the tools to use to be a light and teacher to those approving my requested accommodation.
