Without balance and the ability to deliver dropping force from any position you can’t be in the right location to do anything.
You have to be on balance even in the most ridiculous positions. GC drills train this, so always do them!
You are always on the move and always changing -- you don’t wait for anything, and are always soft – except for your weaponry. This principle of always being on the move is critical because panic tends to paralyze your balance and root point so this must be embedded in every fiber of your being: hit on the move; hit from where you’re going to be not from where you are; be a moving target.
It bears repeating: you don’t block anything -- your antennas guide your strikes.
Part of the awareness of your own balance is using it to disrupt the enemy’s balance at the right time.
This also allows you to change your own balance point if they are on balance to disrupt theirs.
If you can soften and remain on balance you can get your strikes in even when blocked because you’ll only have to change your body slightly.
Important to practice simultaneous Shedding and Rocket-step striking which allows you to hit from a new angle.
Unbalance-striking may need to be in various directions to prevent an incoming strike. Experience in contact flow teaches this. For example a backwards unbalancing may fail to prevent an incoming strike while an upward, sideways or downward may be far more effective.
You can also unbalance by ripping flesh in various directions (push/pull).
You have to maintain a connection to know where they are and when or if you can disconnect safely to hit. Your connection though need not be physical but simply a heightened kinesthetic awareness (proprioception) of chaotic bodies in space – which (unlike most systems) GC trains all the time.
When you feel THEIR disconnection, just go right in.
When most people go fast they tighten up throughout their entire bodies. In GC, speed does not equal tightness. You solidify only for the microsecond of impact your strike to target (“detonate on impact”).
Your development of “noodle arms” keeps you from locking up while connecting. This and “threading the needle” and Ghosting makes you unavoidable.
