| | | The
disgusting "Knockout Game" videos that have been hitting the web are
incredibly disturbing: vile punks seeing if they can "knockout"
innocent, weaker, unsuspecting citizens (including women and senior citizens)
with one punch. Unconscious before they even hit the ground, some died
on impact as their skulls crashed into concrete. In the picture on the
left, a 50 year old English teacher (prone figure on the right) fell so fast he could
not even use his hands to brace his fall. He is
still recovering.
Unfortunately, some of the biggest names in self defense have been offering tips to the fearful public that border on the criminally negligent. Without naming names, Guided Chaos master Lt. Col Ridenhour separates truth from utter B.S. in the article and Martial Myths video below.
|
| | If you haven't seen the video, go watch it now.
In it, we duplicate move-for-move what one super-popular system recommends to protect yourself from a Knockout Game scenario:
They say: If you see your attacker before he hits you, you're supposed to get in a fighting stance, step back and dance around as you prepare to unleash some whup-ass.
Alternatively, you should close on your attacker and commence grappling because then you can't get knocked out. They show a
petite woman hugging a man a foot taller (the instructor) around the waist while his hands are clearly all over her throat,
eyes, neck, face, etc. But wait--he's supposed to get tired of swinging wildly while she's hugging him--not realizing he could pull her hair, snap her
head back and break her neck. But that's not all--she then pushes off and goes back to sparring range!
So in other words (according to them): the best way to get distance is to close
distance.
The notion that you're going to dive in and grapple
with the attacker in this situation is not only stupid--it's criminally negligent. Also the very idea that
people can't hit with power at close range is utter nonsense (as covered
in one of our previous newsletters "Striking at Grappling Range"). I
guess getting your eyes gouged out, stabbed or struck in the wind pipe
doesn't count. Or getting hit with Dropping Energy.
I also don't like the way they try to trivialize the
seriousness of this crime by painting the attackers as just a bunch of
street punks looking for a "thrill" to prove their manhood. While that may be true, these thugs have severely disabled and even killed people and such talk only works to diminish the
severity of this crime or makes it appear that if you just bloody their
nose a little they will all just run off with their tails between their
legs.
In truth this phenomenon is not new. If you will recall the bad
old days in the New York metro area in the late 1980's and 1990's,
young men used to go "Wilding". It all started off with
similar attacks and eventually graduated to robberies and brutal gang
rapes.
When I was in Afghanistan the general consensus about a lot of
the local Taliban guys was that they were mostly punks and just because they
had the capacity to be cruel didn't make them brave. However, with that
said we were also smart enough to recognize that a punk with an AK-47
is still dangerous and must be treated as such--even a punk can get
lucky.
Same thing here: they may be punks but even a coward who would
punch an innocent person in the back of the head can stab you to death,
especially if you tie up with them. So why would you give them that
opportunity?
If you recall the video of the poor guy in Hoboken, NJ
who was knocked out and killed, he actually saw his attacker(s) and
chose to try to ignore them as he passed by. My read on this based on
what I think I observed in the video was that in his attempt to not
appear to profile them and keep an eye on them, or not walk down that
area in the first place, or wait until they had at least moved out of
the area, he chose to walk past them thinking if he made himself seem
innocuous they would leave him alone. He thought wrong.
The point is people need the truth so that they can make better, more informed choices.
The
technique debunked in our Martial Myth video also gives no consideration to the fact that in most cases
the victim is outnumbered. This is a situation, by the way, that the
grappling community has no answer to. They (the grapplers) continue to
believe that even with potential multiple attackers around that they're
still going to be able to grapple an attacker one-on-one and that none
of their friends are going to jump in.
Good luck with that tactic.
First
of all if you have the chance of backing up you probably have a chance
to escape or, if you are able, to produce a weapon and defend yourself.
Second,
in almost every instance of the so-called "knock out game" it
is almost exclusively (always) done by "groups" of young men for
several reasons:
1) Strength in numbers (a.k.a. the pack mentality); 2) In many cases the unsuspecting victim does not know which one will
attack them because they sometimes strike from out of the pack or from
behind 3) The victims are almost all perceived to be weak thus easy prey. Also as
highlighted above, many thugs that prey on other ethnic
groups know that most people in these groups "fear them"
on some level, especially when there are large numbers of them.
Final note on the bogus grappling solution offered: it's
also not uncommon that once a person grapples back or hits the ground
that the others join in kicking and punching the victim as documented in
numerous videos. How anyone could advocate grappling and then
hopefully disengaging as if the "perps" will just run away is not living
in the real world. There are just too many assumptions and too much
wishful thinking going on in this video and none of it good.

| | | | NEW MURDER MYSTERY NOVEL FEATURES GUIDED CHAOS...
|
| This really creepy, weird, off-beat, compelling psycho-crime-mystery that is part Agatha Christie and part quasi-supernatural horror story has surprise plot twists, bizarre characters--and a detective/ventriloquist who kicks ass using an obscure martial art that remarkably resembles Guided Chaos! How did that happen?
While the Village Sleeps' author Jonathan Geffner (Guided Chaos 3rd degree and master professional ventriloquist) has appeared on nationally seen television programs and was the ventriloquist consultant for Tina Fey's 2013 movie Admission.
I really enjoyed this story and read the entire $0.99 cents download with the Kindle app on my smartphone! --Matt K

Blitz magazine article on Guided Chaos Australia Seminar:
"Let me start by saying I thought I'd seen all that the world of 'reality-based self defence' had to offer, so for the easily bored out there, I'll cut to the chase. What I witnessed on the weekend of 26 and 27 March is the closest thing I've come across that resembles a modern-day, reality-based martial art and not just another 'combatives system'. Does it work? Hell, yeah! I got my arse well and truly kicked and at times felt like I was in the middle of a Jason Bourne fight scene." --Clive Girdham, former Senshido and Geoff Thompson instructor

| "Guided Chaos is the only training in my 15 plus years of Corrections that translates into real world application, period."
"Guided
Chaos is the only thing that has worked for me in real life situations.
Unless you are 6'3" and 285 lbs of muscle, most of the Defensive
Tactics stuff (ok all of the Defensive Tactics stuff) will get you hurt.
And even if you are that big and strong, there is always someone
bigger and stronger and there may be a lot of them. Nothing like dealing
with one guy and it turns into a free for all with all his buddies.
This is where you literally need to 'adapt or die' and Guided Chaos is
the only training in my 15 plus years of Corrections that translates
into real world application, period." ---Bob Miller, Corrections Officer at the largest facility in Oregon |
| "If I had to pick only one martial arts system in the world it would be Guided Chaos..."--Dr. Robert L. O'Block founder and publisher of the American College of Forensic Examiners International, American Board for Certification in Homeland Security
"...through watching videos put out by attackproof.com, and by reading Attackproof, the book, I have learned real survival skills. These skills have been learned...at an exponentially higher practical yield-per-hour training rate than any other martial art classes or seminar I've ever attended, or ever even heard rumor of." --Matthew Shoener, Police Officer, Scranton, PA
"The Companion Video Part One is stupendous! A godsend of detail for out-of-state practitioners." --Mark from Chicago
