Secondary Visual Systems and the Subconscious          •    Regardless of whether you accept the theory of evolution, the fact remains that as the embryos and fetuses of more complex animals, including humans, develop, they go through stages that resemble more primitive animals. The founder of the discipline of embryology summarized this as "ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny."     •    In some organ systems, such as the uro-genital tract, older structures are replaced, sometimes being "cannibalized" to create newer structures. In the central nervous system, the newer structures generally "stack" onto the older ones. This contributes to the immense complexity of the human brain.     •    As has already been mentioned, Jim Cirillo was convinced that there is a great deal of subconscious visual perception and that, if one can learn to use it, he can respond more quickly. Jim taught the use of the coarse silhouette of the handgun, of which he believed shooters develop a subconscious perception, to get off aimed shots faster than if one looks for the finer image of the aligned front and rear sights.     •    Tim Sheehan, inventor of the HexSite, argues the other side of that coin. The HexSite was specifically designed to allow a visual confirmation of sight alignment while focused on the threat, so long as the handgun is elevated into the line of sight. Tim argues and I have partially validated that even in conditions where there is not enough light to form a conscious image of the front sight, the HexSite can refine the silhouette-point, for a more precise hit.     •    Why? After over a year of discussion, Tim located for me a link to an old Nova program in which is buried a brief explanation of secondary visual tracts ("wires") that run though the brainstem to secondary visual cortices ("screens") in the brain. These secondary visual systems would seem to explain an awful lot about our subconscious sight.     •    Another thing to consider: We know that the cerebellum - the "newest" part of the hindbrain, itself the "oldest" portion of the brain - integrates input from vision, the balance organs of the ears and the stretch receptors in the tendons, to create a sense of balance. The cerebellum plays a crucial role in motor control and is certainly also responsible for the subconscious coordination of hand and eye, something that I assume is a crucial component to successful point shooting.     •    Comments from those who specialize in the neural and visual sciences are welcome. I can prove that "visual" memory of an area can also be used to align weapons and sights while either standing still or walking through an area. N0 "sighting" at all is required!!! Both Jim Cirillo and Tim Sheehan are correct but they are looking at a fraction of the picture. It goes even further than they teach. Easy to show and become proficient in my method. The main purpose of this method, which is my creation, is to get a shooter to trust his/her inner ability to obtain high speed "Weapon" alignment. You will love it once I show you. Something I haven't shown many yet. Can be taught in any room. Based on spacial awareness coupled with sensory hand eye coordination and subtle balance shifting.  Could revolutionize high speed combative handgun or long gun training. This type of training is not cheap, but you will find it nowhere else.
