Subject: Unfair fight for smaller studios

Several years ago, actress Sophie Turner gave a very revealing and honest interview.

You might know Sophie Turner from some of her bigger roles in the X-Men movies or Game of Thrones. She became famous when she made her debut at the age of 15 in 2011.

In 2017, she gave an interview to Porter magazine and made a surprisingly honest confession.

I’ll let her speak for herself.

Sophie said: “A lot of what I have achieved is about timing and luck, but it is also - and I hate to say it - about a big social media following.”

She continued:

“I auditioned for a project, and it was between me and another girl who is a far better actress than I am, far better… but I had the followers, so I got the job. It’s not right, but it is part of the movie industry now.”

I'll translate:

The filmmakers cast her in the role for their movie…because they knew her contract would include a requirement that she promote the movie on her own social media channels. At the time, she had 9 million followers.

That’s a lot of exposure for their film.

And so - she was cast.

Fascinating isn’t it?

Studio Business Isn’t Fair

I have to tell you - I experienced something similar.

In 2013, I started to really hit my stride with promoting my studio and making it more visible.

I’ll never forget a conversation I had at a local teacher association meeting. I spoke to a teacher who had been teaching for 30 years. Her studio was less than 2 miles from mine.

We talked about teaching and the industry and studio news and students we were working with, and she said:

“Daniel, why don’t you save some students for the rest of us?”

I was a little taken aback - and honestly, felt a little bad.

At that time, I had been teaching for about 9 years. There’s no doubt in my mind that she was more experienced. She had taught a lot more advanced students than I had.

But, because I was more visible... the students came to me.

Not fair!!!!!

In a fair world, the more experienced teacher would get more students. They would get the better students.

But, we don’t live in a fair world.

We live in a world where your skill in marketing and promotion is much more important than your experience, your degrees, your programs, your pedigree, your qualifications, and even your ability to teach.

This is why I am dedicating the month of August to helping you increase your enrollment and visibility in your local community…

It boils down to this:

Growing your studio is not magic.

It’s a math problem.

I’m going to show you the math starting this Monday.

And - later this month - if you want to dive really deep with me, you’ll have the opportunity to take my studio marketing system and “install” it in your studio.

Yes! I’d like to learn more about studio growth!

Have a great day!

Best,

Daniel
