Subject: [Day 2/4] My dad believed a scam

There are few things in life that bring me as much joy as some of the messages that I get from my dad.

I went a week without hearing from my father, and then - out of the blue - I get this message from him:

This is one of the best messages I’ve ever received. From anyone.

This is just one of those once-in-a-lifetime perfect messages. The perfect blend of humorous, wholesome, and unbelievable.

Naturally, I immediately called him. I had to hear the full story.

He had received an email promising quick riches.

I asked him to forward it to me, and also reminded him to never, ever, ever, ever click links in emails like that.

Sure enough… it was a scam email. A spam email.

I explained to him that - yes - you could earn money online from home, but that oftentimes it involves lengthy setup on the front end. And, it often meant building a real business… not receiving money from Nigerian princes or “buying a website” that makes you money 24/7.

He quickly lost interest. Too much work.

Now, here’s where things get interesting…

Music studios are prime candidates for doing legitimate online advertising!

And, if set up correctly, it could send a passive stream of leads to any studio that took the time to set up a studio growth system.

How do I know this?

Well, because I set up a marketing system for my studio in 2012 that is remarkably similar to how “big time” Internet gurus set up their marketing systems.

That leads me to tell you about...

Marketing Lesson #2

It Is Possible to Get New Students from Ads… But There is a “Catch”

I created an ad account for my studio in 2012.

I taught myself how to use Google Ads.

Honestly?

I was terrible at it, at first.

But, after a lot of self-study, I learned how to make it work for me.

After 2014, I would spend about $2,000 per year in ads, and receive anywhere between 150-225 lesson requests per year as a result.

I received a predictable number of leads each and every month.

How?

What was the catch?

I’ll tell you… It wasn’t just about the ads.

It was about the whole funnel.

Each and every part had to be optimized.

Specifically:

  • The ads

  • The messaging (more on that in Friday’s email)

  • The website

  • The followup process

I’ll make a bold statement:

If there are 25,000 (or more) people living within a 5 mile radius of you… you should be receiving a steady stream of lesson requests.

If you aren’t, it’s a sign that one or more of those parts of your funnel is broken.

Most studios can fix their funnel in 8 weeks or less. If they know what to do...

This is why I created Studio Marketing Masterclass.

Over the past 3 years, we have helped 200+ studios create great marketing and become very visible in their local market or online (yes, this works for online studios, as well).

We’ve even helped studios that teach instruments that have less demand (like flute or saxophone)... and filled their rosters within months.

If you want to get more students in 2021…

You can apply to join the Masterclass this coming Monday, November 2nd.
