Subject: 4 Ways to Deal with Student Absences

A fresh look at your rescheduled lesson policy

Have you ever had a parent confront you in your studio and demand that you reschedule a lesson that they “no-showed”?

It gets uncomfortable.

Having an airtight reschedule / makeup lesson policy is critical… especially as your studio grows.

You want to be fair… but not bend over backwards and encourage bad behavior.

Here are 4 ways to handle missed lessons:

  1. Anything goes… whatever the client wants (not recommended)

  2. No reschedules whatsoever

  3. Limited number of reschedules per year or quarter

  4. Unlimited makeups provided they cancel according to your policy

Personally, I used the 4th one… and many people have expressed surprise at that fact. They assumed I would be tough as nails about it and not allow reschedules.

The reason I could offer such a generous policy was that my group system allowed families to drop in to any class in which there was an open seat.

All we had to do was maintain accurate records… and parents could log into our live calendar and book in.

In a decade of running this policy, I experienced very few issues with this policy.

No admin headaches around this policy… and a lot of happy parents!

This is one of the reasons we strongly encourage studio owners to run a group lesson system like the Piano Express

It affords you the opportunity to offer this kind of policy to families.

It costs you nothing (you’re already running the class!) and it allows you to see students and help them continue to make progress!

If you’d like more information about Piano Express… check out our 2 minute overview video.

If you’d like to demo the Express, you can request a demo here. You can have a live demo or virtual demo… your choice!

Have a great weekend!

At GrowYourMusicStudio.com, it’s our mission to build a community of music education entrepreneurs that love building, scaling, and expanding their music studio! We focus on equipping these entrepreneurs with the very best information as it pertains to growing and scaling a successful, profitable music school. We love to help people learn how to market and scale their local and online studios. We do this by showing them how to teach students in a group setting rather than providing a service that can't scale - so they can live a great life and make a great living at the same time.
