It’s a tough one for us to understand as photographers, but an even tougher one for our clients to figure out! And when our clients don’t know how licensing works, that’s when there’s misuse of photos and files being passed around to third parties. This is why it’s so important for us to make sure we educate clients and have open communication about licensing - how it works, what it means, and how this affects their freedoms with the files.
Conversations like these can be awkward, but we have the perfect person to help shed some light on this! Contributor Sarah Linden has a two-part series that speaks directly about licensing. First, Sarah covers How to Educate Your Clients On Licensing. In this article she talks about personal experiences, both good and bad, and how you can make sure that licensing is not only a conversation, but an integral part of your workflow. This first article is LIVE on our site so head on over and take a look! Keep an eye out for Sarah’s continuation of this topic with her second article all about what to do when someone uses your photos without permission (sound familiar? Yep, we’ve all been there!). For now, though, make sure that you’re doing everything you can to clear up the mystery of licensing for your clients.
