MIND YOUR BUSINESS

Hi there Friend!

We've talked a lot about techniques for editing and shooting, but are you also remembering to take care of your business? Yes, we're artists who create beautiful images for our clients! We're also business owners who have bills to pay (unfortunately!). So this week I've pulled together some resources for you, both on The Grove Studio's site and off.

SEO:

When it comes to your website, you've gotta have a solid SEO foundation! It's going to take time to see the results, but it's crucial that you make changes now so that you can reap the rewards of organic traffic later. Learn how to get started with that in this article from Creative Impact.

BASIC BUSINESS:

Have you ever wanted to be a fly on the wall during a business chat between amazing interior photographers? A little while back I sat down with Bethany Nauert, Marisa Vitale, and Amy Bartlam to talk shop. We talked for so long that it was broken down into two videos!

You can start with Part One Here and then move on to Part Two Here.

CLIENT ONBOARDING:

You've gotten a new client – woohoo! Now what?

First, you need to onboard them. This is just the process of adding them into your workflow and getting to know them so that you can get the first project going. If you need a little help in getting the onboarding process figured out, I got you covered. You can read more about it in my field note, "Onboarding 101: How to add a new client to your workflow".

PRO TIP:

Since we're talking business today, let's keep it going!

Most business decisions will be guided by your target market. What does this mean? It means you need to know what clients you want to bring in. Are you wanting to focus on interior designers? Residential or commercial? Maybe architects? Large scale projects or smaller? Maybe you want to work directly with manufacturing brands?

The type of client you want to work with will dictate WHERE you need to show up online, HOW you need to speak, and WHAT you show in your website.

If you're not sure who you want to work with just yet, it's okay! It's perfectly fine to experiment with different types of clients! Just remember to take notes of the good and bad experiences so you can narrow things down as you gain experience.

That's it for this week!
As always, stay safe and be kind,
xo
