Hi Friend,

This week we have the Full Moon in Scorpio (Wednesday May 14th at 8.15pm BST). What we actually experience as a Full Moon, is that time of the monthly cycle when the Moon is directly opposite the Sun. The Moon is 'lit up' at this time by the Sun's light and so what we see from our perspective here on Earth is a "Full Moon". Astrologically this means the Sun and Moon are in opposite signs. So this week, because we still have the Sun in Taurus, Wednesday's Full Moon is in Scorpio.

Each month we experience a Sun-Moon opposition at the time of the Full Moon. Oppositions are not considered 'easy' aspects, we can often feel pulled this way or that, but every opposition brings an opportunity for resolve. The Full Moon is a time of tension, and there can be an increase in social upheaval and disturbances at that time. No accident that the word 'lunatic' comes from lunar, meaning the Moon, and was so given because of the 'madness' that often seemed to accompany the Full Moon! Every month, at the Full Moon, we have an opportunity to balance the particular polarity in question.

So what does that mean for Taurus-Scorpio?
Rather than thinking of Taurus and Scorpio as two separate signs, if we think of Taurus-Scorpio as one energetic spectrum it can help us to understand the spiritual significance of this polarity, and work towards resolution and healing. The word healing comes from the Old English 'haelan' which means 'to make whole'. Working to resolve oppositions is an important part of our individual and collective healing process.

At personality level the key phrase for Taurus is "I Have" while the key phrase for Scorpio is "I desire". At the mundane (or worldly level) the energetic spectrum of Taurus-Scorpio is about balancing our needs, desires and attachment.
To a degree both signs are working with releasing attachment. With Scorpio, as the fixed water sign, it can be emotional excess and attachment (bordering on obsession) that is ready for release and healing. In the case of Taurus, being the fixed earth sign, it can be sensual and physical excess (overindulgence, possessiveness) that is ready for release and healing.

Wherever we are on the Taurus-Scorpio spectrum, the light of the Full Moon will illuminate these issues in our own psyche, so that we can work on healing and release. The intensification of powerful psychological issues can lead to 'lunar madness' if we are unconscious, but if we are consciously walking our spiritual path and we bring loving, conscious awareness to ourselves at this time, we have a powerful opportunity for healing and release. The key is to be fully present and aware.

Spiritually this is a highly significant Full Moon and one of the most important of the whole yearly cycle. Esoterically it is 'the festival of the Buddha' - the second of the great spiritual festivals that we mentioned in a previous newsletter.
Many spiritual traditions worldwide are celebrating buddhist festivals of Saka Dawa or Wesak, and it is no accident that many Catholic children worldwide will be receiving their first Holy Communion around the time of this Full Moon. It is a powerful time for meditation because of the huge potential for illumination and connection or 'communion' with Divinity.

Esoterically Scorpio is said to represent the coiled kundalini (vital spiritual energy) that dwells at the base of the spine, while Taurus is the sign of the third eye and spiritual illumination.
We can see this simply in Nature: as the life-force energy which goes 'underground' in November (Scorpio), rises and bursts forth in May (Taurus) in the form of new life. At this Taurus-Scorpio Full Moon it is a time when seasoned meditators may experience the kundalini energy rising up the spine to reach the third eye, at which point personality and soul fusion can happen, resulting in total release of duality and attachment, spiritual awakening, and an experience of oneness.

Also at every Full Moon we have a culmination of whatever seeds we planted at the New Moon.
Some plants take longer to reach fruition than others, and some of our plans may not yet be anywhere near bearing fruit, but at the Full Moon we can expect to see signs. In a Taurus-Scorpio Full Moon we should at least now see whether our plans have practical applications and are worth a continued investment of our time and energy, in other words our personal resources.

Astrologically the Sun and Moon are called the luminaries, or the two 'lights'. As the most personal of planets they have the most effect on us, so each Full Moon is actually a very important time, and carries an opportunity for resolution in a different area of our lives.

That's all for now see you next time, and in the meantime... happy exploring!

Best Wishes,

Ruth
