Following on from last week it feels important to explore the Saturn-Neptune square more deeply from the standpoint of what is really real anyway?
As I explained in an earlier article, one of the biggest challenges we will face in the Aquarian Age, is to separate beliefs, man-made ideas and delusion from spiritual truth.
This Saturn-Neptune square has great opportunity and potential for serious seekers of spiritual truth. If you really want to know who you are, and understand your true nature as a spiritual being, make friends with the energy of Saturn-Neptune where reality meets enlightenment!
...but before we get too ‘out there’ let’s come back down to earth with some really solid Saturnian questions:
What is real? And how can we know?

| | What is Real? And How Can We Know?
In Esoteric Astrology the Piscean Age is described as an age of glamor. What is meant by glamor? We might think that’s not a bad thing, right? We love glamor. Look how much we pay our glamorous celebrities! We are dazzled, bewitched and hypnotised by glamor. Glamor is very Neptunian and we get caught in glamour like a deer caught in the headlights that is frozen and unable to move as it’s about to be hit by a truck. The deeper we sink into glamor the more we lose sight of that which is real.
Glamor is fantasy. Illusion. Deception. Imagination. Idealism. We get caught in ideas of how things ought to be, rather than deepening our awareness of how they actually are. So we can see that in the Piscean Age people got caught up in religious idealism, fanaticism, celebrity-ism, drugs, escapism, cults etc. you name it, wherever there was an opportunity for us to get ‘lost in a dream’ we did it during the Piscean Age!
So what will be different for us during the Aquarian Age? Well Aquarius is ruled by Saturn, right? So we’re bound to have a reality check and begin to see the truth, right? Well, not quite. At least not yet. Aquarius rules technology, the internet, information. We are already deeply immersed in the information age, yet how much of it actually relates to truth? There is so much misinformation and disinformation that we are more confused than ever. We are drowning in a sea of information and yet, are we any closer to knowing what we mean by truth?
Aquarius is also a sign of idealism. If we’re not conscious, alert, awake and aware, we will just replace the soporific glamor of Pisces with the detached idealism of Aquarius. In a very detached Aquarian way we may easily swing from one extreme to the other, replacing our glamorous Piscean ‘cult’ with a heartless, impersonal, idealistic collective, such as communist Russia or China. We may gloss over an ocean of human suffering, polish up our rose-tinted spectacles and continue believing that all is well. Neither of which, will guide us to spiritual truth.
The Evolution of Consciousness
Saturn is one of the rulers of Aquarius at the personality level. Neptune is one of the rulers of Pisces at the personality level. So now we can see this Saturn-Neptune square has some deeper implications for the evolution of consciousness, as we transition from the Piscean Age to the Aquarian Age. Saturn also rules the structure of mind. Neptune rules Universal Love and compassion. If we remain awake and alert we have a real opportunity to re-structure our minds, so that we may expand our field of awareness to perceive the subtler soul qualities of compassion and Universal Love that are available to us during this square.
Intuition IS The Answer
Uranus is the remaining co-ruler of Aquarius at personality level. You my recall that Uranus is also the planet that awakens your intuition (see this earlier newsletter). According to Master Astrologer Alan Oken:
"Intuition is our ability to perceive the quality of energy."
You may also remember from last week that we noted how Uranus is making a positive contact with Saturn (by trine) through much of this Saturn-Neptune square.
So we have Saturn urging us to be authentic while at the same time we have Uranus zapping us left, right and center to wake up and use our intuitive faculties!
I cannot emphasize enough the importance of cultivating your intuition right now*. The key is to go deeper with your mediation (or whatever practice you do) to expand your awareness, intuition, and your ability to perceive subtler qualities of energy. Once you do this, you will know beyond all doubt, what is really real! You will know how to discern fact from fiction, because you will know the difference between the very real presence of love (which permeates everything that is real), and any mental concepts, ideals, beliefs or notions of love.
If your attention is on a concept, or an idea, you aren’t experiencing real love. You are merely thinking about it. When you drop deeper into your meditation, beyond the level of thought, you experience the reality of love. You feel it’s presence within you. Then Saturn meets Neptune. The highest essence of Saturn, in the form of your authentic core self, recognizes the highest essence of Neptune: as your innate inner light, compassion, and Universal Love.
Once you can perceive the presence of love in all things, then you will know what is real. For that which is real comes from love, is imbued with love, and returns to love.
In Esoteric Astrology there is also the concept of the seven rays. The Tibetan (Master DK) tells us that we are living in a ‘Ray 2’ Solar System. Ray 2 is the ray of Love-Wisdom. Our Sun is a Ray 2 planet, emanating Love-Wisdom throughout our Solar System. Our purpose in this existence is to manifest and embody greater degrees of Love-Wisdom. Jupiter is also a Ray 2 planet whose purpose is the expansion of Love-Wisdom. Jupiter also happens to be the Soul ruler of Aquarius.
With conscious loving awareness the authenticity of Saturn can bring us to the realization of the Soul ruler of Aquarius, Jupiter, in the form of the highest Love-Wisdom. In Buddhist traditions it is said that the highest wisdom of all is the ‘wisdom realizing emptiness’. Melanie Reinhart’s higher vibration keyword for Pluto is ‘emptiness’. Pluto also happens to be the Soul ruler of Pisces. So when we move to the vibration of the Soul, as the Piscean Age slowly dissolves into the Aquarian Age, we may know the highest wisdom of all: the wisdom realizing emptiness.
What does it mean to realize emptiness? It means we know it to be real. It means we know, through our own personal experience of expanding our awareness and consciousness, that emptiness is not 'empty' at all. To realize emptiness means we know that consciousness (awareness) permeates all of space, that consciousness and love are one and the same, and it IS who we are!
We ARE living expressions of Love-Wisdom. As in the words of Kalu Rinpoche, we realize that we are nothing and, being nothing, we are everything. This is where you then know beyond all doubt what is really real: it is Love.
