On Sunday the Sun entered Sagittarius marking the beginning of this year’s Sagittarius season, and we have a Full Moon in Gemini on Wednesday 25th November at 21:44 UTC, so it is perfect for looking at what spiritual lessons we can all learn from this time of year.
Remember, during Sagittarius Season we are all bathed in the prevailing energies of Sagittarius, whether we have planets in that sign or not, so on our journey of self-exploration it is worth taking a moment to understand this stage of our journey.

| | In an earlier article "Sagittarius Rising: The Sagittarius Soul" I spoke about the importance in Sagittarius of identifying the correct goal. I suggest everyone read that article to get a sense of context of our spiritual path, and where I’m going in this newsletter. I want to go a bit deeper in exploring what that goal is, and how we actually reach it. Simply put, the goal is our own Soul Awakening. Our journey of spiritual awakening, consciousness or, as the Tibetan Master puts it in Esoteric Astrology, the goal of personality-soul fusion.
Some call it enlightenment, but that might seem like a lofty or impossible goal, whereas what we are really talking about is fulfilling our highest potential as human beings. Which means, just like an acorn has a perfectly reasonable expectation that, under the right circumstances it will become an oak tree, so you too can have a perfectly reasonable expectation that, under the right circumstances, you will realize your spiritual goal and become a fully Soul-Centered human being.
This is not a matter of ‘becoming’ something. Our acorn doesn’t need to change anything to turn into an oak tree… it only has to realize what is already there. Likewise our own spiritual journey is not about turning into something else like a werewolf, but rather simply realizing that which we already are! Soul awakening is our true nature.
Identifying the goal in Sagittarius, is about placing our attention on our own spiritual awareness, rather than on all the things outside of us, which distract us from ourselves to such a degree that we lose sight of our own spiritual nature. This is why the archer’s arrow should ideally be pointing toward the heavens - if it's pointing anywhere else, that's an 'incorrect goal' or worldly distraction!
The mathematician Pythagoras lived in ancient Greece around 500 years before the time of Christ. In addition to being an accomplished mathematician Pythagoras was also an accomplished mystic, astrologer and scientist who founded an ancient mystery school called "The Order of Pythagoreans". Among the disciplines required of his students were silence, music, incense, physical and moral purification and daily self-examination. It is said of Pythagoras that he heard the ‘music of the spheres’. Each of his students was given a ‘monochord’: a one-stringed instrument, and told that once they understood the secrets of the monochord, they would understand the secrets of the Universe.

The emphasis in the Pythagorean school was on self-examination (self observation, self-exploration… or meditation) as much as, if not more than, formal study, because it was recognized that this is the only way we can ever really know the true nature of the universe and our inextricable place within it.
In previous newsletters I have emphasized the importance of developing your intuition and perception through self-observation (meditation) so it's time to combine that with Soul Astrology to deepen your self-knowledge. You’ve also heard me mention the importance of understanding your Sun Sign (your prana or life-force energy) and your Moon Sign (your instincts and your emotional world) and your Rising Sign (your Soul Sign). Now we’re moving to a deeper layer.
Next we’ll be looking at your 'chart ruler' and how you can track it to see how this influences and affects your own energy field.
To do this you’re going to need:
A Personal Journal - If you don’t already keep a journal you might want to consider doing so - it can be a very useful tool for recording your self-observations in this type of self-exploration.
Your Natal Chart - You need to at least know what your Rising Sign (your Soul Sign) is. If you don’t have a natal chart you can get one here or at least calculate your Rising Sign. |
