This week we are in a New Moon phase which began with the New Moon in Libra on Tuesday 13th October 2015 at 00:05 UTC
There is a very Libra-Aries flavor to this New Moon, not only because the Moon itself is in Libra, but also because we also have the Sun in Libra (astrologically speaking a new Moon is actually a Sun-Moon conjunction), Mercury is at 01º Libra conjoined the lunar North Node, the esoteric planet Vulcan is around 11º Libra, and just to add a bit of excitement to the mix (as if that wasn’t enough) we have Uranus at 19º Aries opposing the New Moon (Sun-Moon conjunction).
It is worth noting too that the lunar nodes have occupied the Libra-Aries axis since February and will continue to do so until November 12th.

| | Some of the major themes of Libra are harmony and right relationship. In fact, they might be said to be the same thing in the sense that harmony exists when things are in right relationship to one another. Think of music. When individual notes are played in right relationship to one another we call it music and experience it as harmonious. When individual notes are played in wrong relationship to each other we think of it as ‘noise’ and experience it as disharmonious.
No surprise then that last week astrologer Robert Wilkinson noted in his blog "Aquarius Papers" that a number of great musicians have their birthdays on October 9th. John Lennon also shared an October 9th birthday and his life was the epitome of Libra themes: from his musical ability (Librans often have an innate sense of harmony) to his focus on peace, love, and ethical living. We can also see how by following his path he was led to higher truth and deeper spiritual awareness (imagine no possessions).
Uranus (in opposition to the New Moon) is the Soul Ruler of Libra. Also known as ‘the father of archetypes’ Uranus is that planet of transformation that seeds our future. Nicely positioned in Aries: sign of the mind and also a sign associated with inspiration and planting seeds (Aries is a sign of spring and new growth). Interestingly, the Soul Ruler of Aries is Mercury - which as we noted is in Libra conjunct the lunar North Node. So we are being called to the highest expression of both Libra and Aries.
If we think of the yin-yang symbol, there is always a point of white in the black, and a point of black in the white. This is symbolic of the fact that any form contains the seed of it’s opposite. So Aries plants seeds that will ripen and flourish in Libra, and vice-versa. We can’t go too far in considering the needs of the society (Libra) without bringing it back to how it will impact the individual (Aries).
The Nodal axis itself tells us something about a shift on a collective level. The nodal axis relates to the society itself and deeper lessons learned on a collective level. Certainly since February, with global crises affecting thousands if not millions of our fellow human beings, we have had many opportunities to reframe how we view ourselves vs others.
According to esoteric astrologer Alan Oken, Mercury rules the ‘movement’ of mind, while Saturn rules the ’structure’ of mind. Saturn is in Sagittarius, making a lovely sextile (flowing connection) to Mercury in Libra. Saturn is calling us to be ever more authentic in our relating, while the higher purpose of Sagittarius is calling us to stand for ultimate truth and higher wisdom, the ultimate freedom.
Vulcan is associated with the transformation of form. As the blacksmith of the Gods Vulcan melts down old forms in his furnace and then forges them into new shapes. So with Vulcan in Libra we are being called to literally reshape our relationships to each other.
Something that we don’t often think about in conventional astrology, but is very much emphasized in esoteric astrology, is that the planets themselves are incarnations of great beings. They have intelligence (as do the Zodiac signs which are said the represent ‘angels’). While we might not be able to wrap our heads around such esoteric concepts, we can think in terms of consciousness permeating everything in our manifest reality, and that everything is therefore imbued with intelligence.
In the light of current research which clearly shows that we are essentially made of light, and that our cells have the ability to communicate with light, it’s not too big a stretch to also think of planetary bodies as literally communicating with each other. We, as a growing, evolving, humanity, are currently bathed in an energy field created by the ‘conversation’ between these planetary bodies (Sun/Moon, Mercury, Vulcan, Uranus and the lunar nodal axis). We are immersed in the harmony of the spheres, and if we are sensitive enough we will be able to hear the message.
It’s Time Now - To Reshape Our Minds
On many levels we can say that this New Moon phase is communicating an important message for humanity about harmony and right relationship, but do we normally associate that with changing our mind? When I say change our mind, I don’t mean “Oh I’ll have a cheese sandwich instead of pizza” I mean really, really, change our mind in terms of actually reshaping and reforming our thinking patterns, limiting beliefs, attitude, and mindset. Actually re-structuring our thought processes in alignment with higher truth, wisdom and authentic living (Saturn in Sagittarius).
Libra is a cardinal sign and cardinal signs are about pioneering something: introducing a new way of being. When is comes to the Libra-Aries polarity the fundamental theme is our relationship with self and others. Libra is also all about ethics: what are ethics? Simply put, ethics is the science of ‘right’ decision making. The choices we make in Libra, become the seeds of our future in Aries.
We are at a pivotal point in history. The choices we make now are creating our future. There is no going back. We are more spiritually awake, aware and conscious than ever and yet on a huge scale we can also see the imbalances in the world in terms of our relationship with our human family. When our future selves look back at this point in time, we will see it as one where there was a huge reforming of society in line with who we are becoming, as spiritually aware and awake beings.
We will realize that there really is no separation. We will realize that there really are no possessions. Then the Libra-Aries axis will dissolve into one and we will understand the ultimate lesson of Libra-Aries:
