Life's Greatest Adventure! January 13th 2016 Hi Friend, Once again we are currently in a Mercury retrograde period. Mercury turned retrograde on January 5th* and will turn direct again on January 25th. Mercury retrograde periods often result in blocks, misunderstandings, communication failures, computer glitches, commercial hiccups etc. etc. It's as though the messenger of the Gods (Mercury) is trying to tell us something. What if this was really a very sacred time, and our attention is needed elsewhere, not on the outside world... A retrograde period is where a planet (from our perspective on Earth) 'appears' to reverse direction. Of course planets don't really go backwards, but we do experience different effects as we are receiving the energy through a different 'lens' so to speak. This retrograde period began with Mercury at 1º of Aquarius then as the movement of Mercury appeared to reverse, Mercury re-entered Capricorn on January 9th. Mercury will turn direct again on January 27th before re-entering Aquarius on February 14th. So at the moment we have Mercury in Capricorn once again, which is an excellent placement for making progress on our path of spiritual awakening. Capricorn is an Earth sign and can have a calming and focusing effect on Mercury's generally skittish nature. During a retrograde period, the energy is more introverted and contemplative. There is a natural 'going within' that happens and it is easier to discern the greater presence within which we all have our being. Esoterically Mercury is responsible for the formation of the rainbow bridge (between lower and higher mind), while Capricorn is the sign of the disciple or initiate: one who knows the way and is walking the path (to spiritual awakening). This is not a time for increasing output and action, but rather it is a time for quiet meditation and contemplation. Even if great ideas and inspiration come to you during this time (which they may, especially since Capricorn is a cardinal sign - during your meditation you may find yourself reviewing your strategy) better to take note and wait until Mercury turns direct again before you execute your plans. It is also important to remember that nothing happens in isolation. Each Mercury retrograde period differs from the one before - not only because Mercury is in different signs, but because the aspects to Mercury are different too. Mercury Trine Jupiter Mercury has been trining Jupiter in Virgo since December 20th 2015, and continues to do so until February 13th. Normally Mercury trines don't last that long but this retrograde period has meant that we get to experience this aspect for a longer time. A trine is a very positive aspect where the energy between the two bodies concerned flows well and supports the most positive expression of the planetary energies involved. Esoterically Jupiter is the planet of love-wisdom, while Virgo is the sign of the Mother and Child. So now we have an interesting and very sacred picture building in this beautiful Mercury (retrograde) - Jupiter connection. We can gain even more insight by considering the science of the seven rays. The seven rays are described by the Tibetan Master in Esoteric Astrology as a means of deepening our understanding of the interplay of energy.  According to the Tibetan, Jupiter is a ray 2 planet (love-wisdom), while Virgo is ray 6 (idealism/devotion). Mercury is a ray 4 planet (Harmony and beauty through conflict) while Capricorn is ray 1 (the path of power or purpose). During this Mercury retrograde period in Capricorn we have an opportunity for resolving our inner conflict by following the 'way' or path of the disciple through quiet contemplation (Capricorn),  leading to inner stillness (deep harmony and beauty) which bridges the gap between lower and higher mind (Mercury-Jupiter). This then allows for a greater influx of love-wisdom (Jupiter) through the purest unconditional love and devotion of the Mother (Virgo/ ray 6). This is a very beautiful and precious, opportunity for you to connect with your inner world and discover the truth of Divine love and wisdom for yourself. When Mercury retrograde seems to be 'blocking' you from putting your energy 'out there' pay attention. Take note of the messenger of the Gods (Mercury), take time to meditate deeply, and allow yourself to experience your inner world - there is great treasure to be discovered!
