In these times we cannot emphasize the power and value of intuition enough. The most recent and vivid example is that of Antoinette Tuff, the school clerk who talked down an armed youth and prevented a mass shooting in Atlanta, GA. She had no training in hostage negotiation so it wasn't intellect, training or learning that guided her through the situation. It was her heart-centered intuition.

In Esoteric Astrology the Tibetan Master tells us that we are evolving from instinct, through intellect, to intuition. Instinct is animal-consciousness. A domestic cat will instinctively catch and maybe kill a mouse, even though it may not be hungry. The urge to pounce is instinctive. As humans evolved we entered the stage of intellect. This was important.
Intellect allowed us to use our mind. To think. To apply logic and reason. To act civilized and to build great societies and civilizations which have the potential to raise us above instinctive animal-consciousness. (Although many people are still driven by instinct, particularly when our personal survival is at stake!)

Intuition is beyond thinking, because thinking belongs to the intellectual stage, and intuition is beyond that. Intuition can be described as knowing without thinking. Intuitive information comes from direct perception of the wisdom that is our Divine Source.
So what are we really talking about when we say 'intuition'? TheFreeDictionary.com describes it as: "The act or faculty of knowing or sensing without the use of rational processes; immediate cognition." It stems from the latin 'intuitio' which means "to look at, consider, watch over".
If you can, remember a time as a small child when you experienced things purely. You might be playing with a flower, looking at it, smelling it, probably eating it! There is no thought about it until later, when someone tells you 'it's a flower'. Intuition is childlike clear direct perceiving without any unnecessary layers of mental information.
