| Life's Greatest Adventure! | | | | Hi Friend,
One of the things I am most often asked about Soul Astrology is:
How can you tell the difference between impulses that are coming from your Soul, and those that are old compulsions from the personality as a result of conditioning in this and past lives?
My answer is always intuition... but it is not always clear to everyone what intuition actually is, and how it can be helpful. This became clear to me recently in a conversation on Facebook.
In a conversation about health care choices I said,
"intuition is always your best guide"
to which someone responded,
"but for some 'intuition' leads them to skip medicine and they die"
Hmm... this made me realize how important it is to really understand what intuition is, and how it can be helpful.
Below is my answer...

The definition that I find most helpful (in terms of understanding what it actually is) comes from Alan Oken who says, "Intuition is the ability to perceive the quality of energy within the form". We all have the potential for intuition and, as with our other senses, some people experience it to a greater degree than others.
To understand this better we can use an analogy with our sense of smell. Some people have a better sense of smell than others. Imagine you have a sandwich that you bought and the label reads "Use by 30th". Today is only the 29th. Now let's say you have a good sense of smell. So you open your sandwich and it smells bad. You're not likely to eat it. Because even though the label is presenting you with the idea (a mental concept) that the sandwich might be good for another day, your sense of smell is telling you that in actuality it has already gone off and could be harmful to you if you eat it.
Someone with a poor sense of smell doesn't have that option. In spite of the reality, they are dependent upon a false mental concept that the sandwich is 'good' until the 30th. So in this analogy we can see how information in the form of ideas and mental concepts can be misleading in terms of the actual reality, whereas information received through your senses is more accurate in terms of the current situation and can be relied upon.
When it comes to medicines, prescription drugs have many potential side effects and adverse reactions as well as potential benefits. Someone with a good intuitive sense will be able to perceive directly whether a proposed medicine would be more beneficial or harmful to them, before they take it. (Just like the person with a good sense of smell can avoid a bad sandwich).
If someone has a poor sense of intuition then (like the person with the poor sense of smell) they have only ideas and mental concepts to go on. They may go along with an 'idea' that '80% of patients' for example were helped by this medicine, but they really don't know if it will help them unless they take it.
If intuition leads someone to skip a proposed medicine and they die, it could be a lack of intuition rather than genuine intuitive capacity. Sometimes people can mistake ideas and mental concepts for intuition. On the other hand their intuition could have been 100% correct: perhaps the proposed medicine would have made them worse, or uncomfortable (like some strong chemotherapy), and they would have died anyway because it was their time.
In terms of really understanding your Soul Astrology, cultivating your intuitive capacity is one of the most helpful things you can ever do. Once you have developed a good intuitive sense, just like being able to tell which medicines will be helpful or harmful to you, so too will you more easily be able to discern those subtle impulses that are coming from your Soul compared to those which are old ego compulsions.
