Life's Greatest Adventure! January 27th 2016 Hi Friend, Have you noticed that we are living in an information age? From our personal 'smart' phones, tablets, computers, TV's etc. to public multimedia billboards, we are now continuously bombarded with information  at an unprecedented level. We probably process more information in one week (if not one day) than our great grandfathers would have had to process in their entire lifetimes. What will determine who succeeds in this society? Our ability to determine what is important. Our ability to sift through the tsunami of information and focus on what is meaningful and relevant, and filter out the rest. It's the same when we approach astrology and the process of understanding our birth chart. These days we have access to much more astrological information than previous generations - through Google, blogs, YouTube etc. So how do we determine what is important, and what is relevant? Recently a client asked me about a transit of Black Moon Lilith, and what that meant in her chart. Someone else asked about Quintiles and their significance. When we first hear about something it can be very interesting to study our chart to find out what meaning (if any) it might have for us. However, before we get too far down the rabbit hole we also need a sense of perspective - a context within which to place new information. Otherwise minor chart factors can take on a disproportionate significance compared to other more important and relevant factors in our chart. Look for the major theme in your life Have you noticed with movies there is often a major plot and then one or several sub-plots all going on at the same time? The major character might be a heroic figure trying to save the world from a mad scientist who wants to unleash a deadly virus, but at the same time he or she might have a sub-plot where he is trying to heal his relationship with his (or her) estranged spouse and get the family back together. The major theme in your life will be indicated by your Soul Sign (Rising Sign or Ascendant), your Sun Sign, your Moon Sign and your Chart Ruler(s). Your Rising Sign is the energy of your Soul and indicates your Soul Purpose in this lifetime (basically it's indicating what wants to be expressed from your Soul). Your Sun is your pranic (or life force) energy. It indicates on a day to day basis how you flow your energy into the world. Your Moon sign is your emotional world. It indicates how you experience your feelings, how you relate to others, how you love and like to be loved, and how you react to others when your buttons are pushed! Once you have all that under your belt you have a basic understanding of what your energy field is about. Next we want to find out the main plot, and we do that by looking at the chart ruler (s) at both personality and Soul level. There could be one, two, or even three, depending upon your Rising Sign.  (See my earlier newsletter on Tracking Your Chart Ruler). Let me give you an example. If you have Aries Rising, your personality ruler will be Mars and your Soul Ruler will be Mercury. The next thing you would look at is where Mars and Mercury are in your chart, and what condition they are in. Do they have any aspects to your Sun, Moon or AC? Do they have any aspects to each other? Are they well aspected, or afflicted? This will indicate the major theme of your life. Once you understand this, then weave in other chart factors based on how they relate to your Sun, Moon, Rising Sign and chart rulers. So now lets say you were born with the Uranus-Pluto conjunction in Virgo (people born between 1963-1968). This is going to be a powerful placement wherever it falls in your chart - but more so if it is making a significant aspect to your Sun, Moon, AC or Chart Ruler. .. and then what if you have Libra Rising - making Uranus your Soul ruler? You can see how chart factors take on more or less significance based on their relationship with and to other chart factors. So in deepening our understanding of ourselves through Soul Astrology we always want to be aware of the major theme in our lives, and then as we learn new information we can determine if and how it fits in to the big picture. In the example of the client who was asking me about Quintiles - there were three in her chart, but only one was making an aspect to her Soul Ruler... guess which one was most significant?  :) That's all for now!  See you next week and in the meantime...  happy exploring!
