| Life's Greatest Adventure!

I love this time of year in the northern hemisphere. (I should fly south in the autumn so I get to experience it twice!) There is something new to see every day as life bursts forth: the leaves and blossoms unfold on the trees and new growth is sprouting up everywhere. Not to mention the increased activity of the birds, squirrels, rabbits and other creatures that probably now have new 'families' to take care of. Maybe it's because I was born in May but I do feel a special affinity with this time of year, and I'm not alone...
In the northern hemisphere this time of year was acknowledged by ancient pagan festivals as people celebrated fertility and the rites of spring. From the phallic symbolism of the morris men dancing around a maypole to the crowning of the May Queen, this is a very special time of year when fertility and more specifically the seeding of new life has traditionally been acknowledged, celebrated and invoked.
Vitality is in the air. The life-force energy surging up, in and around us, is practically tangible. Which makes it much easier for us self-explorers. In your meditation, yoga, or whatever practice you do, notice the vital quality of energy at the moment. Whether you observe your breath or focus on particular chakras, notice what is happening within your own energy field, and notice how you notice!
This is a wonderful time of year for expanding perception and no accident that it is said that the Buddha himself became enlightened in May, which is why many important Buddhist festivals are also held during the month that Shakespeare called:
"Ye Merry, Merry Month of May"!

Many of us (myself included) may not think of ourselves as being energetically sensitive, but might notice that we have acute hearing, or a stronger kinesthetic sense than other people.
