Life's Greatest Adventure! September 23rd 2015 Hi Friend, A friend of mine often asks me about soul connections in families (she does happen to have Sun in Cancer) and it is a fascinating topic once you start to look into it. You can often find a connection at soul level that isn’t first apparent from just looking at the personality signs (Sun and Moon) of the people involved. Often we find a relationship between the soul and personality signs. For example the mother might have Sun in Gemini Rising ( meaning she is a Gemini personality) while her son might be a Gemini Soul (Gemini Rising). Another friend of mine has Sun in Sagittarius and her son has Sagittarius Rising, so he is a Sagittarius soul. In both these cases where the mother has the Sun Sign and the son has Soul Sign, this could mean (but not necessarily) that the son is taking the energy of that sign to a higher octave, by first experiencing the vital Sun-based expression of that energy through his Mother, which alerts him to his potential for expressing a higher octave of that same spectrum (his Soul’s expression). I say ‘not necessarily’ because even if someone has that energy as their Soul Sign (Rising Sign), whether it manifests as the personality or the Soul expression depends upon the consciousness of the individual. For example, someone who is a Sagittarius Soul has the potential to ‘uplift humanity through the revelation of truth and wisdom’ (the soul purpose of Sagittarius), but whether they manifest as a great spiritual teacher depends upon their own level of consciousness. Having said that, someone with Sagittarius Rising will always end up ’teaching’ of sorts, in some sort of context. I recall a friend who had no spiritual inclinations whatsoever, and scoffed when I said Sagittarius is the sign of a teacher (he had Sun in Sagittarius). He told me he’d always just worked in a factory, so that must mean astrology is ‘wrong’. We left it at that, but later on, in a different conversation he was telling his pal how the boss always put the new guys with him so that he could ‘show them the ropes’. He hadn’t thought of that as ’teaching’ as such, but his boss had recognized that he had a talent for explaining things! So back to what it can mean in families. If, in our example of the son with a Sagittarius Soul, the son is a highly conscious individual then he may be a powerful spiritual teacher and guide (formally or informally). He may even be a kind of teacher to his mother, through activating her Sagittarius Sun he may awaken and enliven her consciousness. On the other hand if he is not so conscious they may both have a more mundane personality expression of Sagittarius (like my friend the factory worker) yet they will still enjoy all those Sagittarian activities of teaching, learning and sharing wisdom together. It gets really interesting when we look at a whole family and see the threads that connect them. At first glance my parents didn’t seem to get along. With Dad’s Sun in Scorpio and Mum’s Sun in Gemini they had what I sometimes call the Scorpio-Gemini ‘fatal attraction’. Two high intelligences, but both with a very different focus, and each convinced that they can change the other if only they ‘explained’ it enough. (Scorpio is water and Gemini is air… the line from the song ‘fish gotta swim, birds gotta fly’ comes to mind)! Let’s just say they didn’t always see eye to eye! But they also had a long, stable, marriage in which they built a secure home and raised a family. When it came to home and family they were a team and we were fortunate enough (aside from the occasional quarrels) to grow up in a secure home, where all the bills were paid, we always had enough to eat, and we were well cared for. We can understand this once we know the Soul Signs involved. Dad had Cancer Rising and so he was a Cancer Soul, while Mum has Capricorn Rising and is a Capricorn Soul. At Soul Level they had compatible signs. So like a couple of horses tethered to a plough, when it came to the everyday business of building a home and raising a family they pulled together as a team, set aside personal differences, and drew upon the strengths of the Cancer-Capricorn polarity! At first glance (if we just looked at Sun Signs) it might also look like Dad was the ‘odd one out’: being the only water sign in a family of air and fire signs (Mum and four children are all either air or fire). But when we look at Soul Signs it’s a different story: of the four children two of us have Cancer Rising - so we’re on the same Soul Path as Dad, one has Virgo Rising (which is compatible) and one has Gemini Rising - which connects to Mum’s Gemini Sun (and they do have a very special and close relationship). There isn’t the space here to go into details. Of course there is so much more to look at when looking at family connections, but if you think your family are off balance somewhere in terms of their Sun Signs, try looking at the Soul Signs and see if that tells you a different story!
