In Gemini, therefore, you have the two, the pair of opposites and the will-to-relate; in Virgo, you have their work in cooperation, the nurturing of the life of that second ray phenomenon, a Christ, the consummation of the task of matter and its elevation into heaven.

The influence of Virgo appears in the many religious, spiritual and mental organisations and movements which indicate so directly the awakening of the Christ consciousness in humanity."

In earlier newsletters we explored how, according to the Tibetan tradition, everything manifests from source, through the light realm into the physical realm.

On our Soul's journey out through the stages of Aries, Taurus, and Gemini, our Soul was in the light realm. In Cancer the Soul incarnated into the physical realm and in Leo became an individual. In Virgo, still in the physical realm, the individual Soul hears the call of the Divine and starts the return journey home. 

So what does this mean for us personally? Let's explore!

Divinity Calling: The Urge to Serve

The sign of Virgo is often associated with being of service, yet that can be easily misunderstood at the personality level. We are not here to be in service to the ego - our own or anyone else's. Yet ego makes slaves of us all.

Last time we explored how ego isn't actually a 'thing' so what is it? It's really a mindset, or to be more accurate it is an unlimited number of mindsets generated by our conditioned mind. It is a manifestation of conditioned existence. 

Ultimately, we are ALL here as an expression of Divine Love in action and it is at the Virgo stage of our Soul's development that this expression of our being, the urge to somehow be of service, first enters our conscious awareness. 

Following the heart-opening in Leo (the sign of the heart) we discover our capacity to flow love through our hearts for the benefit of humanity and our planet. 

Virgo is an earth sign, so we are not speaking of love as an abstract romantic fantasy, but rather as a real, tangible, felt, energy, flowing through the body, that we become consciously aware of, and can apply, for practical purposes (such as healing, growth, and spiritual awakening).

As beings of light all of our actions are imbued with love naturally, and it is in the Virgo stage that we have the potential to become consciously aware of this fact. However, until we become fully awakened, our natural flow of love is obstructed by mental concepts, preconceived ideas, and the actions of our ego mind. 

An example of this is where we might feel an urge to give to a homeless person, but then we have a thought "oh but they might spend it on drugs or alcohol". That thought has just blocked the spontaneous flow of energy from the heart.

This is an obvious example, yet on a daily basis, even from moment to moment, our conditioned mind is continuously blocking the natural flow of energy from the heart on a subtle level. This may be a conscious thought as in the example above but more often our conditioning is operating at a subconscious level. Blocking us from being spontaneous and free.

Spontaneity and freedom are not words we often associate with Virgo. When we think of Virgo we think of method, analysis, and controlled precision. All mental activity that contributes and reinforces our conditioning.

At the personality level Virgo is ruled by Mercury, which rules the "movement or mind". In other words, thoughts. Yet Virgo is an Earth sign and is also associated with purification. The word Virgo comes from the same origin as Virgin, meaning pure. The purity we speak of here is a purity of the heart. A pure heart untainted by mental conditioning is able to flow love as freely as nature intended. This is the highest Soul path of Virgo.

Virgo and The Mother of Form

The Soul Ruler of Virgo is The Moon. Esoterically the Moon is known as "The Mother of All Forms" and it is the sign of Virgo that holds the key to this deep, esoteric truth. In earlier newsletters we mentioned how thoughts create Universes. It is our thoughts that create the conditioning for mandalas of experience to exist. 

The deep process whereby we create mandalas of experience involves more than just thoughts on a superficial level. It involves our whole web of interconnected thoughts, emotions and feelings. In other words, our thoughts are only the beginning of a process where we weave our own web of experience, and get caught in it.

Creating our world and holding it in place

There is a Sanskrit word, prapancha that refers to this process whereby we form mental concepts then energetically grasp at those concepts to keep them in place, which blocks our spiritual awakening. This 'holding' in our body and mind, takes a lot of energy, and blocks the natural flow of love from the heart, preventing us from awakening to the truth of our being as Divine love and light.

Even though we have no equivalent word in English it is, in fact, how we live our lives on a daily basis. We have a concept of how the world is, and who we are in it, and most of our daily activity involves supporting this concept and holding it in place: it involves how we think, act, feel, speak, the work we do, how we dress, who we think we are, who we surround ourselves with, and how we relate to them. It takes a lot of energy to hold this 'idea' of who we are in place, and build our entire world around us. Our individual world of form.

A Cosmic Lightning Conductor

I sometimes refer to Virgo as being like a cosmic lightning conductor. As an Earth sign ruled by Mercury, Virgo can take all this mental energy and ground it to Earth. At the personality level this could take the form of our mind creating concepts to develop 'methods' which are then applied to the world. This would be a mental expression of Virgo, and while it may be helpful to a point, it is not the most spiritual use of Virgo's highest capacity.

As we go deeper in meditation it becomes possible to experience energy directly, without applying thought forms or labels to the energy. At this level, Virgo becomes very aware of energy in it's purest form and can allow thought forms to dissolve back into their energetic state, where the energy can flow back into the earth.

True Purification

The purification that is required of Virgo involves meticulously allowing all thought-forms to arise and dissolve back into their natural state, which is Divine love. This then frees up the energy so that Divine love in it's purest form can flow through an open heart into the world for the benefit of Mother Earth and all her children. Through the dissolution of the prapancha process, Virgo can dissolve worlds of suffering and reveal the underlying truth of pure Divine love.
