Subject: This week in Govcon .. October 18

Happy Federal Government Fiscal New Year!!

Just a round robin of my week in a nutshell.

By the way, help me boost the Govcon Giants instagram page by following us here. We will be posting notices of upcoming appearances in a city near you soon. In 2020 I plan to due a 12 city tour.

Personal:
I acquired an inactive corporation for the purpose of taking over the abandoned building that it owned. Got the idea from a friend of mine that bought a non transferrable property in D.C. that now generates $10K/mo net. Originally I was unsure but after mulling over the idea with a successful friend I started putting the wheels in motion and voila this week got the deal approved.

Fun interview this week:
Merry Korn of Pearl Interactive Network a social entrepreneur who employs veterans, veteran spouses, people with disabilities, and people living in geographically challenged areas. My biggest takeaway from the interview was to dream big, “cliche” yes I know. At one point, she had to ramp up from 20 employees to 420 in 90 days, Merry says it she put all her personal resources on the line and used a factoring company to finance the growth because no bank would lend her money. Her dream was always to have an 1,000 employee company, with that feat accomplished she is now aiming for 5,000. All about Merry

Story worth mentioning:
A student was defrauded by someone pretending to be a government agency. She placed the order for $90K worth of electronics and when it arrived at the address on the PO the recipient had no knowledge of the purchase. Shortly thereafter she received a call from an agent at the FBI. Needless to say, she was sick to her stomach.

What did I listen to this week that intrigued me?
I watched two episode of Nick Cannon Mornings, interviews with Birdman, Cash Money Records and Master P. (No Limit). I had no idea that Cash Money records currently has more than 600 million streams online headed for 1 Trillion. I also learned that black and latino’s only own 5% of the movie industry but consume 60%. Check it out

Ideas for future Govcon students:
A new Govcon Giant student signed up this week who had previously worked for a large multi-national employer as Head of IT. During our strategy session I mentioned a substantial IT project (billions) that required a small business partnering with a large. We are now discussing plans to bring all parties to the table in an effort to pursue 8 and 9 figure opportunities.

If you or someone you know works for a major corporation (current or in the past) be mindful that we can do a Joint Venture/Mentor Protege and the national company will be treated as a small business. Now you have the past performance, the infrastructure and financials to pursue 7 figure projects. It’s not hard just requires thinking different and dreaming bigger.

Articles that I read this week:

How to approach a podcast guest?
I am learning that several of you are reaching out to my podcast guests which I support. However a few people did it the WRONG WAY so I thought it worth mentioning.

Be professional, be courteous, do not complain or whine about your situation. Find out where you can potentially be of value or serve. Imagine if you were on a date saying those things.

Also, be cognizant that spammers use gmail, hotmail and yahoo accounts, so we do not know if you are a real person behind that generic email address.

Today's Quote:
"“Our decisions about transportation determine much more than where roads or bridges or tunnels or rail lines will be built. They determine the connections and barriers that people will encounter in their daily lives – and thus how hard or easy it will be for people to get where they need and want to go,” - Elijah Cummings
