Subject: This week in Govcon .. December 13

Let's just jump right in. Two weeks after Thanksgiving and just 12 days before Christmas we need to be on the look out for the lawmakers trying to steal our Christmas.

While y’all doing your Amazon shopping December 20 is quickly approaching and the continuing resolutions run out meaning another government shut down. Congress needs to sign a bill before that date to avert a furlough of 1000's of employees across dozens of agencies.

There seems to be positive news that they may have reached a potential averting deal. Read more.

News that moved me
The first commercial autonomous delivery was made just before Thanksgiving. The truck traveled 2800 miles delivering 20 tons of butter for Land O’ Lakes.

Did you know that more than 50% of private US-based unicorns, as of 10/2018 had at least one immigrant founder. That group includes SpaceX, Stripe and Instacart, Uber, Slack and CrowdStrike. Find out what VC firms are doing to help the next generation of immigrant founders.

YT videos that impacted others:
If you are not signed up for notifications from my YT channel, than you probably missed this post on “How to build past performance” with Mark Masters, the company who’s job it is to fight wildfires. Watch now as his company expanded into consulting the government on wildfire prevention.

Podcast I enjoyed this week:
This week I listened to two incredible podcast episodes on the Master of Scale podcast with Reid Hoffman, founder of LinkedIn

1. “Make it epic - with will.i.am” - shares the story will.i.am showcasing how one can transition from one life path to the next with just a few calculated steps, surrounding yourself with people doing great things. He was always paying attention for the opportunity, and then how to compound it.

2. “All founders have a Trojan Horse w/ Robert F. Smith” - Robert Smith multi-billionaire founder of Vista Equity Partners talks about lack of opportunities growing up, playing defense as a minority and how persistence led to his opportunities but his work ethic pushed him over the top.

Spanish word of the week:
Suenos = Dreams

I want to encourage you all to keep your dreams alive and well. Look for unconventional places as sources of inspiration.

I get inspiration from my Mom (age 76) who continues to help troubled youth despite the lack of external rewards.

My sister (age 58) who just last year adopted 2 foster kids (pictured below) siblings both under the age of 4 after her husband passed with Leukemia 18 months ago.
There is nothing standing in the way between you and progress!!
