" I think you'd ask any one of my employees and they will tell you that historically they've know that I always worked harder than them. So, you kind of lead from the front, you know, because people take that cue off of you and they know and it, and it sort of drives the business. I mean, look, they're not going to work. They're not all owners in the business. So, at some level, you know, they're not going to work as hard as you, but at least it does help drive them cause they know you're not out fishing on a Friday while everyone else is back at the office working. I mean, they know you worked all weekend and, and they, and they know that they're, you know, they're succeeding and they're growing because their health and do that. And so, I think that to me has been a big difference." (50:07)

Hernandez Consulting & Construction is a project management firm and general contractor specializing in design, construction, design-build and real estate development. Under Alex’s leadership, the firm has grown exponentially and now actively operates in a large portion of the United States.
The firm has been named in the Inc. 500/5000 list six times. Alex was named Louisiana’s 2017 Small Business Person of the Year.
Alex began his career as a Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps specializing in Logistics Operations. He has sat on the Board of Directors for the Veterans Services of America, Inc. and the Tulane Alumni Association. Alex is also Managing Partner of the New Orleans Redevelopment Fund and Albert Architecture.
In this episode we discuss how he came to learn about government contracting and how he began his career with cleanup projects after Hurricane Katrina. We also talk about, how to be a great subcontractor, building great teaming arrangements, and how he raised capital for his firm.
I hope that his story inspired many people out there not to quit and to continue the fight becauseit is well worth the effort in the end. As he said when dealing with time where others would have given up, he learned in the USMC that quitting simply was not an option.
