I guess being I am the back engine of this newsletter has its perks because that means I can write my own newsletter.… lol.. Don't tell my boss I did this...
First, I personally wanted to take a minute to say a HUGE Thank you to Eric Coffie.
Yes, it is crazy for me to say that just over a year ago I was teacher and that today I can stand here and tell you my story.
To tell you a bit of my journey, I inserted the picture. Visuals are so much more fun! Don't you agree? The first picture you see is actually my last teacher picture in September of 2017. See, I taught Kindergarten for 4 years and even though it had its great moments of getting little hugs and love yous, the downfall came from how our education system has changed over the years.
The next two pictures are from the when, unknown to me my career path was about to take a huge detour. In November of 2017 I went on a disaster relief trip to Puerto Rico and met Our one and only mentor Eric Coffie. Now mind you, I had no clue who he was but that week the seed of government contracting was planted in me. Since then my life has been a whirlwind of an adventure. I have learned about government contracting, construction, project management, podcasting, conferences, consulting and I am now even on YouTube and a podcast.
The old Maria thought she wanted to be a teacher for the rest of her life but that is before I knew this amazing world of opportunities existed. Yes, it has been challenging and perhaps at times it felt impossible But I learned with a little pain comes greatness. So, yes you can do this too! I began with zero knowledge and now have 3 consulting clients, 3 contracts, and 1 sole source. I helped small business get about $200,000 in government contracts awarded. WOW! Yes, I still get surprised by that myself but I am proud to be a Govcon Giant Student and now I want to share my thoughts, steps, fears, wins and success with you.
Others have helped me realized that I am still teaching and helping others in a new capacity and subject matter. I have gained a new skill set and now it is time for you to do the same for yourself.
I am very humbled to have my story be put out and I hope my story helps you take that next step. Sop doubting yourself, Stop procrastinating, Stop wondering, Stop waiting, Stop being fearful... It is your time to elevate yourself to a new standard. Find, dig deep down if you have to but find the confidence, motivation, drive, desire to learn and do. I did, and my big WHY might be a bit different than yours but it is equally as important. Find the reason WHY you need to do this and make it work and when times get a bit tough let they WHY push you to keep going.
