I don’t know how many times I’ve sighed…
“If only I had enough motivation… I’d become a billionaire, single handedly solve all the world’s problems, and do it while wearing the world’s coolest tuxedo.” Ok, I’m exaggerating… slightly.
However, repeating that over and over again got me thinking.
It couldn’t be that you or I are all that different from the high achievers… the Elon Musks and Jeff Bezoses of this world. We all have our 24 hours a day, and if you’re reading this email on your computer with an internet connection, you have access to the biggest opportunity to change the world (and fill your wallet) that mankind has ever had.
It couldn’t be that they’re superhuman. For all their achievements, they’re still just people. People who have days when nothing goes their way, when their kids get in trouble in school, and while they’re dealing with that, something else happens, and so on.
What’s different is the insane level of motivation they have.
They seem to never give up.
Like Michael Jordan who was cut from his high school basketball team. Or J. K. Rowling who had her first Harry Potter novel rejected 12 times and was told “not to quit her day job”. Or The Beatles, who were turned down by almost every record label despite some local success (one Decca executive said that “guitar groups are on the way out”).
Where does that kind of motivation come from… and how can you and I get it? Because once we do, it’s a whole different game.
Think about it.
What if someone had the motivation instead of creating just one lead magnet… to create 30? Even after the first, the second, even the fifth lead magnet was met with crickets?
What if someone had the motivation to instead of going to the gym for a month… to stick with it for 2 years… 5 years… 10 years?
What if someone had the motivation to pick up their laptop after a day at work and an evening with the family… and invest 2 hours of their time creating outcomes for their business instead of watching Netflix?
The results would probably be astonishing… and everyone around those people would wonder how did that happen.
Here’s the secret.
You only need motivation until you start seeing the first results. Once you do, a positive feedback loop starts and your brain starts to crave more results. So you don’t need all that much motivation to move forward.
Be careful… because it works the other way around, too.
If you teach yourself to give up all the time… that will become your default setting. Over time, it’ll get easier and easier. And succeeding is going to be harder and harder. Don’t let it get that far. Start working on results now… and let the positive feedback loop take care of the rest.
To Your Success,
