Choosing the right dentist abroad can be a demanding task.
Before going abroad for treatment, it's important to get enough information to make the right choice.
All types of medical treatment involve some element of risk, whether you receive the treatment in the UK or abroad. One way to reduce this risk is to get as much information as possible about your treatment options. Both the NHS and the General Dental Council of the UK are proposing some questions to ask ahead of receiving treatment abroad.
I have compiled these questions to help you make informed choices and of course I will provide you with the answers for our practice in a subsequent email.1) Who will be carrying out my treatment and what qualifications do they have?
2) Will the dental team speak English? If not, will you provide a translator on the day of the procedure?
3) What treatment options do I have?
4) Do you have any references or testimonials from previous patients? Can you put me in touch with anyone else you have treated?
5) How many times have you carried out the procedure I am having? What are the rates of success, complication, readmission and infection?
6) Are you regulated by a professional body and do you have to be registered with them?
7) Is the work guaranteed for a certain period of time? What aftercare do you provide?
8) What happens if I am unhappy with the results? Who pays for the extra flights, hotel and remedial work?
9) If there are complications and I need further treatment, is this included in the initial cost? Do you have insurance to cover this procedure?
10) Who can I contact for advice after the treatment?
Have a nice and productive week.
Best Regards,
