DOL Issues Final Overtime Regs

The U.S. Department of Labor announced last week the final overtime rules have been issued. They will become effective January 1, 2020.

Changes include:
  • Raising the "standard salary level" from the currently enforced level of $455 to $684 per week (equivalent to $35,568 per year for a full-year worker)

  • Raising the total annual compensation level for "highly compensated employees (HCE)" from the currently-enforced level of $100,000 to $107,432 per year

  • Allowing employers to use nondiscretionary bonuses and incentive payments (including commissions) that are paid at least annually to satisfy up to 10 percent of the standard salary level, in recognition of evolving pay practices

  • Revising the special salary levels for workers in U.S. territories and in the motion picture industry

The Farmer's Almanac Predictions for Georgia

October has arrived and yet we still await the arrival of autumn. Most areas of Georgia have experienced over 100 consecutive days of 90+ degree heat and we've got the utility and dry cleaning bills to back this up. For those wondering when the super summer season will finally transition, we've included a snapshot of what the Old Farmer's Almanac predicts for the Southeast for October and beyond. 

Weather Predictions:
  • Oct 1-7 Sunny, turning warm
  • Oct 8-11 Rainy, mild
  • Oct 12-16 Sunny, cold
  • Oct 17-28 Sunny, turning warm
  • Oct 29-31 Rain, then cool
  • October temperature 66° (2° above avg.), precipitation 2" (2" below avg.)
ANNUAL WEATHER SUMMARY- NOVEMBER 2019 TO OCTOBER 2020

Winter will be warmer and rainier than normal, with below-normal snowfall. The coldest periods will be in mid- to late November, early to mid-December, and early and late February. The best chance for snow will be in late February in the north. April and May will be warmer than normal, with rainfall below normal in the north and above normal in the south. Summer will be cooler and rainier than normal, with the hottest periods in late July and mid- and late August. A tropical storm will threaten in mid- to late June. September and October will be warmer and rainier than normal, with a hurricane threat in mid-September and tropical storm threats in mid-October.
