Ever Been Lost in the Woods?

It can be a scary experience. Even if you have a good sense of direction, you can easily find yourself wandering around in circles. You need a compass and a map.

HR Professionals can easily find themselves in a similar predicament. You probably have a “gut feel” for organizational problems – high turnover, too much absenteeism, over-use of FMLA leave. You implement policies that should move things in the right direction, but it can be tough to figure out if the initiatives are actually working.

That’s where HR metrics come in. An HR metrics system identifies problems and opportunities, develops organizational goals and objectives, and defines methods to achieve them. For HR professionals, metrics are the map and compass.

In a 2 part article in the GEA blog, Mike McCurdy discusses the importance of choosing measures that relate directly to business KPIs. Read the article to learn more about critical HR metrics and how they can make an impact on organizational performance.

Mike will be speaking about HR Metrics and Effective HR Practices at the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce on May 17. The event begins at 11:30 AM and includes lunch.
Dr. Ninfa Saunders on Healthcare

“Hospitals traditionally focus on sick people,” Dr. Ninfa Saunders told the audience at the GEA Spring Conference in April. “The challenge is to balance short-term performance and long-term health.”

Saunders, the CEO of Navicent Health in Macon, described changes coming to healthcare, including mergers and combinations of hospitals and providers that will help to manage risk and balance patient populations. Saunders described a value framework that considers accountability, access to care, and affordability to provide long-term health benefits to consumers.

Saunders urged businesses to take an active role in improving healthcare for their employees and to consider innovative and even disruptive strategies to improve long-term health. A video of her Spring Conference presentation is available on the GEA website.
