How much do your employees know about data security?

Some, but maybe not enough. A recent report from e-Learning company, MediaPro indicates that there are some gaps in the the average American’s awareness of data handling best practices and procedures. MediaPro surveyed 1,007 US residents about data privacy.

Some of the findings:
  • Only 53% of respondents consider medical records to be “most sensitive.”
  • 28% consider work emails to be most sensitive.
  • Financial sector employees rank tax information less sensitive than the rest of the survey group (57% financial employees vs. 73% for other industries).
The risk of data breach can open employers to major liabilities. Data security policies, procedures, and training can help to minimize the risk. Read more in the News section on the GEA website.
Monthly Lunch and Learn Series Starts in March

The only constant is change. That age-worn statement came from an old Greek philosopher named Heraclitus and it still proves out thousands of years later. Today, the pace of change seems to be continuously accelerating. There is always something new under the sun for HR professionals – new processes and technology, legislative and regulatory issues, and recruiting challenges are just examples of the kinds of changes that we deal with every day.

Starting Wednesday, March 14, Georgia Employers’ Association will sponsor a monthly lunch and learn session to take on some of the developing issues and opportunities for Georgia businesses. The first session will focus on Key Metrics for Human Resources. Attendees will learn about relevant metrics that link HR processes to organizational KPIs.

More about HR Metrics

How HR Metrics can keep you and your company on course

Have you ever been lost in the woods? It can be a scary experience. You take your bearings from a large oak tree in a clearing and start walking. Much to your dismay, you find the same oak tree again an hour later. Even if you have a good sense of directions, you can easily find yourself wandering around in circles. You need a compass and a map.

HR professionals can easily find themselves in a similar predicament. Maybe you have a “gut feel” for organizational problems – high turnover, too much absenteeism, over-use of FMLA leave. You implement policies that should move things in the right direction, but it’s tough to figure out if your initiatives are actually working.

Data is the obvious answer to the predicament. Measuring the changes of key indicators provides evidence that your department and your organization are moving in the right direction. Choose and use the right measures to link HR performance with the organization’s key performance indicators (KPIs) and to prove HR's relevance and contribution to the organization's success.

Have You Looked at this Month's Forum Questions?

The GEA Forum is a new addition to the website where you can ask questions and provide information to share among Georgia's HR community. Here's one of this month's questions:

Does your company employ truck drivers? How is their pay structured?

Click the image above or the link to help out with an answer. We'll post the answers to the questions in future editions of the newsletter and on the website.
