Subject: SNIPPET: Why to Grow and Dry Oregano

Super Saturday, Grower!

We look at growing food as akin to growing medicine, especially when it comes to herbs.

But I just learned something new. New to us… perhaps you already knew:
I’ve always assumed that fresh herbs contain more nutrients that dried, and fresh foods more nutrients than cooked.

Well, it turns out that that’s not always true. While all herbs are healthy, we have a list in this article, on best herbs to use fresh versus dried for the greatest antioxidant benefits.

(That list is near the end of the article, but you may enjoy perusing all of it).

We’re growing more herbs this year, and hope to have enough to dehydrate as well. A great way to use fresh and dried herbs is in salads and homemade salad dressings.

With the cost of supplements, we’re looking increasingly at “leaves for ills instead of pills”. It’s immensely more satisfying to walk past a plant and pluck a leaf to eat, than to open a bottle and pop a pill!

We do this with all of our herbs in the yard and garden, as well as the longevity spinach, bee balm and other mints. Better than the Flintstones vitamins! ;-) :-D

Keep on Growing!
