Sunday Greetings, Good Gardener!
HISTORIC GARDENS Whenever a family birthday falls during the week, we end up celebrating during the week and on the weekend. So we’ve been enjoying a weeklong (practically) celebration of Coleman’s 66th birthday with a partial “staycation”.
We visited two historic gzarden spots. First, we spent a Sunday afternoon walking the colonial gardens at Historic Bethabara Park in Winston-Salem, NC.
Then on Tuesday we drove the 2.5 hours north to Burke’s Garden, VA, AKA God’s Thumbprint where we enjoyed a wonderful 13 mile bike ride around a truly beautiful area. Talk about wildflowers galore… plus many thriving home gardens of all sizes… a few deer, lots of butterflies, some lovely yellow finches and even some black and white magpies… a first for us!
We decided we definitely need to do that kind of thing more often. If you’ve been to Burke’s Garden, send us a reply with a note about it.
LONGEVITY SPINACH We’ve updated our article on this with new information, images and a video. It’s truly a wonderful plant to grow and add to your culinary and medicinal cupboard.
If you’re farming or planning to, and especially if you’re in zones 9-11, Gynura procumbens could be a good crop to grow for profit.
YOUR TURN! What’s up in your garden? Also, feel free to share some of your favorite garden places to visit if you care to.
Wishing you great gardens and happy harvests,
The Aldersons, Coleman, LeAura, Devani, & Nikolai ...and the Dogs: Zoya, Caspian, Zeus and Mystique the black cat
