GREETINGS, GARDENER!
Have you already ordered seeds for 2021, and if so, were your choices in stock?
Just checking because we’re still seeing seed shortages. Baker Creek was out of beans, tomatoes, garlic and okra this weekend, so best to order early on whatever is available and then keep checking back for the rest.

GARLIC
Our garlic has sprouted, perfectly happy to be growing in the cold. It’s always a joy to see something new growing as the days shorten and the temperatures drop. By the way, if your ground is still workable it’s OK to plant garlic if you can find bulbs.
WINTER VEGGIES AND GREENS
The broccoli is beginning to head up, and the various kales and chard are looking mighty fine. We just let the tree leaves fall where they may and they make a great mulch.
POINSETTIAS
We visited our local plant nursery today and picked up some gorgeous poinsettias. They bring such colorful cheer into the home. One will make a great centerpiece for our dining table. We did an article and video on poinsettias featuring our local plant nursery experts that covers a bit of history, their breeding, and how to care for them.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE GARDENING GLOVES?
Here’s our recommendations for the best garden/work gloves culled from some 40 years of landscaping, building homes, and gardening.
We’d be glad to add your favorites if you care to share. Just send your favorite brand, type (leather, latex, cotton, etc), and what you like about it. Photo/s too if you have them, and we’d be glad to add it to our garden gloves article.
GRATEFUL FOR EACH DAY
As we settle into winter mode here in NC, we hope you are faring well in your home and garden. What helps us is focusing on the day to day, counting our blessings, and, yes, good ole garden therapy, even if it’s just a visit to see how everything is doing.
And with every visit we nibble on some rosemary, lemon balm, oregano, parsley and lavender leaves for immunity boosting herbal medicine.
HOW MAY WE BETTER SERVE YOU?
How is this newsie serving you? Too much info? Too little? Not enough of the right kind…? We’d love to hear from you so that we may better serve you, for that is our goal!
Warmest regards,
Coleman and LeAura Alderson,
