Fall Solstice Sunday Greetings, Gardener!
Coleman is in Atlanta, but he left us these notes to share with you, along with strict instructions for the rest of us to be sure to keep the garden watered, and the hummers fed during this seasonal drought.
We even sent garden photos to him in case he starts going through garden-withdrawals while away. :-D
So this is a brief update. Please let us know what’s happening in your yard and garden.
PURPLE POLE BEANS Our purple pole beans (Carminat) are giving us their utmost as they begin to decline. We planted them several weeks apart and so “bean season” has extended well into September.
You can see our bean teepees and photos of beans here. The teepee method and the purple pole beans are now our favorite beans and bean support system.
OKRA! The okra express is also in full swing now as we’re grateful to harvest armloads on a daily basis.
The Burgundy isn’t quite as productive when compared to the others, but it sure is pretty and adds nice color to any dish.
The best container okra variety is the Baby Bubba. It has bushed out and is sending up new shoots with more pods. In fact, it’s easy to miss picking all the mature pods on Baby Bubba.
As always, we enjoy seeing your photos and snippets of wisdom. You can just hit “Reply”.
Sending our best wishes for a great fall season. May your gardens flourish and yield aplenty!
In Gratitude and Appreciation,
The Aldersons, Coleman, LeAura, Devani, & Nikolai ...and the Dogs: Zoya, Caspian, Zeus and Mystique the black cat
