Subject: Garden DisPATCH - So-long to September

Happy Sunday, Gardener!

The week started with this gardener under the weather-a stinking cold brought back from a trip to Atlanta. We made it up to our mini-farm on Tuesday anyway...

PARCHED

Watering commenced a bedraggled watering by hand, by hose, and even by drawing water from a 55 gallon drum on the back of our (motorized) Mule.

DROUGHT

We’ve had barely any rain for over a month now while the temps have been in record territory. The newly planted trees and bushes need extra care.

PLANTING

We managed to plant a grafted Wells Paw Paw and did some clearing around the entire paw paw patch. They’re a bit too shaded. Nikolai climbed some trees to saw limbs and we’ll get the chainsaw out next to take down another one or two, but hey… we’re planting more than we’re taking!

We procured the Wells from Stark Bro’s to cross-pollinate the others which are “selected seedlings”. These actions should boost production in the years to come.

VEGETABLES:

OKRA

We’re still getting lots of tomatoes, okra, and beans from both gardens. There’s A NEW VIDEO about okra that went up today.

FISH PEPPER

Plus, we did a posting with VIDEO of one of our favorite edible ornamentals – the fish pepper.

MONARCH FLOWERS

A short video added to our butterfly flower article upon a rare sighting of a monarch enjoying the blossoms.

HARVEST OF WORDS

That’s our “harvest of words” for this week’s disPATCH. The main thing for us now is to keep spreading water until the fall rains arrive. So much for our endeavors.

Let’s hear how things are growing in your world!  Check-in at GardensAll Facebook page, Planting for Retirement Facebook group, or reply to this email.

So… in spite of viruses and drought, as I look across the garden, and share home growns over dinner with family, above all, I am grateful for the blessings.

In Gratitude and Appreciation,
