Greetings, Gardener!
It has been an awesome week… and hoping you’re doing well too!
TOMATOES! We picked our first red ripe tomatoes of the season, Early Girls. They were raised up in containers and spent part of the earlier months in and out of our cattle panel greenhouse. Once they were placed outside for good, we used the string support method of “staking”.
The Early Girls have come through quite nicely, and we have set a personal record for the earliest tomatoes to come in the kitchen door. Reckon, with our assistance, they’ve lived up to their name. They’re not as large or as tasty as our favorite Cherokee Purple and Hillbilly tomatoes, but hey, they’re home grown, on our plates, and it’s not quite mid-June.

SALAD ALL WINTER INTO SPRING! Believe it! So grateful that we're still harvesting salad greens and parts of our brassica plants even as they come into flower. It’s quite the discovery and a definite way to extend the cool crop season. Our most recent write-up here.
The bonus feature of having a flower-spangled garden, with bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies fluttering about is that many of these flowers and often their leaves and stems are entirely edible as well. So enjoy the broccoli blossoms and that of other brassicas. We’re chopping the flowers and greens up into salads and also steaming them daily.
We sure hope your garden ventures are faring well and that you’re enjoying the best home grown harvests ever. Please, do let us know how it's going for you in your Little Eden. Pics, comments, questions and tips are always welcome.
