Subject: GARDEN disPATCH: Season's Greetings & Poinsettias

Seasons Greetings!

Happy Winter Solstice to our friends north of the equator and Happy Summer Solstice to our Southern Hemi friends! Our tilt-a-world cycle continues as the world rotates at about 900 MPH. And of course, our track around the sun clocks in at around 67,000 MPH. Thank you gravity and centrifugal force.

For a delightful rendition of our high-speed journey within this amazing expanding universe, you may enjoy this Monty Python Galaxy song for a moment of fun. We know you MP fans are out there. Every time we post about elderberries, we get comments that begin "Your mother was a hamster...."

Have any of you experienced this?

Gifts of the Garden
On occasion, you might be feeling not so positive, not so clear on pressing decisions, “covered up” in worries, and generally feeling stuck. Then, a little urge arises and you feel yourself drawn outside into the garden. There, life itself invites you to do a little gardening. After a while, you realize how much better, how more grounded and positive you feel.

At such moments, I note how often our garden provides much more than food. Call it meditation, garden therapy, divine intervention, or whatever. It sure seems to work. I feel so grateful to have a garden “retreat”.

Maybe, Joni Mitchell’s song about getting ourselves back to the garden is like a doctor writing a prescription for what ails us.

Greenhouse Sanctuary
Greenhouses seem to offer the same benefits. Our little cattle panel greenhouse is a miniature haven. Just five minutes of standing inside that warm inviting space filled with medicinal plants seems to do the trick.

We got to visit another greenhouse this week.

Greenhouse Nursery Visit
Mitchell’s Nursery in King, NC is a family owned enterprise that’s been doing business for forty years. This time of year, they specialize in poinsettias. And, man. do they grow poinsettias big time.

Check out our video and articles about this amazing plant and how to keep it blooming year after year.

Are Poinsettias Poisonous?

Christmas day is next week and with that in mind, we’re re-posting an article about great gifts for gardeners. Yes, a bit late perhaps, but did you know one of the busiest days for retail is December 26?

Folks come flocking with returns, exchanges, and direct buys of what they really wanted. So, have a look see and perhaps you’ll find just the right gardening item to gift to yourself or others.

Hoping you all have the most joyful of holidays,
