Subject: GARDEN disPATCH: Rain Means Garden Slugs

SUNDAY GREETINGS, GARDENER!

One of the best things about rain coming down for days on end the first half of June is that we can relax about needing to water. I’ve yet to set up the water timers

We do make an extra effort toward slug control and as soon as the rainy period ceases, we shake out “organic” Sluggo pellets all around the leafy greens and brassicas. For info on how to rid your garden of slugs and snails using natural methods, have a look at this report.

WHAT'S PLANTING?
We’ve planted more beans, okra, peppers, and little “pear” tomatoes. The sugar snap peas have now been replaced with a new seed bed of lettuce and perpetual spinach (chard).

The cattle panel greenhouse was creatively rigged with shade cloth and part of the overhang is shading the leafy green bed. The goal is to keep those leafy greens coming in the kitchen door all summer. We share a good bit of info on what can be grown in the shade in this article.

Well, enough about our little patch. What have you been up to in your garden? Please, send in your comments, pics, tips, and questions. We’re always glad to learn about and share your experiences: the good, the bad, and “wish I’d planted something else” kinda stories.
