Subject: GARDEN disPATCH: Microgreens

Sunday Greetings, Gardener!

Well… you may have noticed that we’re way behind schedule with this Sunday disPATCH.

Coleman is in Atlanta doing his investment coaching weekend while the rest of us hold fort. We haven’t been goofing off but we are behind schedule, so it’s just one article this time.

Still a Mild Winter so Far in NC Zone 7a

The winter garden has been more like a spring garden. Alternating days of sun and rain and 60+ degree daytime temps have made our cool crops like the Bok Choy flush with new vitality.

It’s wonderful to see the winter crops doing so well, and we're enjoying the vibrant fresh greens in salads, soups, egg bakes and stir fry.
Microgreens

We started the week indoors planting our very first crop of microgreens. After six days, they are almost ready to harvest. This indoor type of gardening can be done even in the depths of winter and is a wonderful way to bridge the gap between gardening seasons. Plus, the nutritive value of microgreens is highly concentrated.

You can read more here in our article on How to Grow Microgreens Indoors. We discovered an odd thing about the hemp grow mat we're using, and you can read about that and more in the article.

If you've grown microgreens and would like to add to our pool of knowledge, please reply with your comments, pictures, tips, etc., and we'll add it to the article.

We haven't grown ours in soil yet... trying grow mat in water first. Next time we'll probably do a side-by-side of grow mat to soil and see which performs best, and we'll keep you posted.

Wishing you the best and keep on growing!
