Subject: GARDEN disPATCH: Garden Scapes are Here!

Whoops!
Sorry for the confusion and that you're getting this twice. I accidentally selected the wrong "from" website address when scheduling this late last night to go out this morning. 😜

Hope you're enjoying a healthy, happy Sunday surrounded by wonderful plants!

Garden Scapes Are Here!

Our garlic plants have yielded their first course: scapes!

We love how it is that many crops have multiple benefits, such as edible leave on the cruciferous plant and sweet potato greens. Well, it's the same with garlic plants.

These are leafless shoots rising from the ground that eventually flower. Think tulips. The hardneck garlic produces one scape per plant.

We let them grow on a bit till they start to curl and then harvest them for sautĂ©ing with other veggies, in omelets, stir fry and chopped raw in salads. YUM!

Onions and leeks also produce scapes to enjoy, but there’s something special about the garlic scapes that yields a most remarkable flavor and you can add it to anything you’d add garlic to.

Speaking of garlic flavor, if you haven’t seen our article on how to make “Black Garlic”, you may enjoy that.

If you'd like to learn of the many health benefits of garlic, this article is from our health site.
