Greetings Gardener!

This week...

Dragon Tongue Bush Beans and Dark Opal Basil
The beans are like wax beans with a marvelous flavor and no strings. Of course, the basil enhances all kinds of dishes including soups and salads. Added bonus-you know how we like color, especially purple!

And for those of you who fancy pickled beans and other veggies...

Pruning
Yep, it's probably still a good time to prune. We got busy in the yard pruning some overgrown trees and bushes. It’s mid August, so, we’re a fair distance away from the first average freeze that could kill off any new shoots. We always keep this in mind if we anticipate new growth appearing after pruning.

We liberated a beautiful weeping hemlock and trimmed back the Pieris japonica (AKA Japanese pieris). Use only hand pruners on individual branches-never shears.
M & M Season is on!
Yes! What would summer be without home grown tomatoes? We’ve enjoyed tomato (‘mater and mayo) sandwiches almost every day. Our trending favorites are the yellow variety-the Hillbilly above all. Adding mustard makes it a 3 M sandwich. Yummers!
