Hi Friend!
Hoping all is well in your corner of Eden. We'd love to hear... drop us a reply any time.
Sorry we’re late—and short—with today’s disPATCH!
We had a family medical emergency, but thankfully, all is on the mend now. But today’s update will be brief.
HEALTHY BLUEBERRY HARVEST Now is peak blueberry harvest time in zone 7a. So far, we’ve picked over 22.5 pounds from our 60 blueberry bushes, not including the ones we taste tested for quality control while picking. 😋
This is the most picked by this date thus far in our five years to date of growing blueberries. You can read more on the numbers in this article under the heading of GardensAll Blueberry Harvests at around ⅔ of the way down.
We still have another couple weeks of harvesting to go so we’re expecting to exceed our previous 40 pound record for this season’s harvest by about 10 extra pounds, which is awesome!
WHAT’S WORKING FOR KEEPING THE BIRDS AWAY Along with a great harvest, we’ve found that the reflective bird tape works really well at keeping the birds away from the berries.
We put together a comprehensive article on planting, growing, maintaining, and harvesting blueberries. We cover health benefits and touch on recipes too, and have included an updated video on the effective bird deflectors.
HAPPY 4TH OF JULY WEEKEND! As we bring this holiday weekend to a close, we honor and celebrate our country’s founding this year by adding a flag to our victory garden. How blessed we are to be able to enjoy such freedoms.
“That piece of red, white and blue bunting means 5,000 years of struggle upward. It is the full-blown flower of ages of fighting for liberty. It is the century plant of human hope in bloom.” ~Frank Crane, c.1915, excerpted
Grateful for gardens and the freedom to grow our own food.
