FALL GARDEN GREETINGS!

It’s a wonderful time of year, and fall crops — and maintenance — are underway.

RAMPS

Today we planted more ramps… video on that coming next week. The last patches we planted in the woods didn’t survive the vole attacks and competing tree roots. So this time, we started over with hardware cloth, weed barrier fabric, and a rustic raised bed.

GROWING ASPARAGUS

If you’re growing asparagus, you’ll want to start now to protect your plants from pests such as the asparagus beetle.

FALL is a good time to release beneficial nematodes into the garden before the soil freezes. They’ll burrow into the soil and overwinter just fine, ready to come out hungry in spring and help protect your plants.

FALL HARVESTS

Grateful for regular harvesting of fall and winter greens, marconi pepper, and veggies, and continued enjoyment of our favorite garden harvest colander basket. The green tomatoes we brought in are almost all ripening in our garden window. Bonus!

For the fall growing season, our garden begins to get more light as the trees shed their leaves, the bugs have mostly gone away and there are still many things that can grow in the mid-range hardiness zones.

Our (mostly) daily salads and breakfast egg bakes are full of these wonderful greens:
