Good Morning!
You may already be out in the garden... mornings in the garden are the absolute best!
Planting of various things are going on each week, and there's lots of lemon balm and mint to harvest and dry, so the dehydrator will soon be humming along on a regular basis.
CALENDULA - AKA - POT MARIGOLD
One of the plants we've been planting that has edible, medicinal, ornamental and pollinator benefits is calendula.
So we posted our article on uses and benefits of calendula on the GardensAll Facebook, and reviewing that topic led us to wondering which are the best medicinal calendula plants? So we researched and wrote about that to share.
Then our friend, Shannon who's a beekeeper and building her homestead at Shannon' Sweet Tooth Farm, said hers hadn't come up this year. That sent us into the research on why calendula seeds aren't sprouting, which also led us into learning more about growing calendula as well as calendula farming!
(And btw... Shannon shared her honeysuckle jelly process and recipe with us that may be timely for you).
LEARNING AND GROWING.... GROWING AND LEARNING!
When you love plants and learning, it's easy to go on a deep dive of delight in discovering more about the plants. Even with those we think we know well, there's usually something new to learn!
So we've been enjoying learning more about calendula this week.
Are you growing it? How are you using it? If you're a market gardener or farmer, you may even be interested in farming calendula! We're not farming yet, but that dream is still alive and well, for even though we're in our 60's (and Coleman turns 70 this year!), we're planning out our next 30 years or so of life!
We figure that rather than talk about how old we are, we can focus on the horizon ahead and planting our dreams in the landscape before us in order to make the most of it!
We'd love to hear your thoughts, experiences, questions on anything you'd care to share around gardening, farming... your dreams or life in general!
Wish you many hours of happy gardening!
