It’s been a busy week here with beginning the building out of the rest of the raised beds in our home garden (aka “Lower Garden”).
RAISED BEDS, STRAW BALES and PALLET GARDENS Gotta say the raised beds look a lot neater than the straw bales. However, they’re filled with the breakdown from two years of rich soil from the old straw bales.
By the way, the pallet garden is doing quite well after removal of the top boards. It’s more like a regular raised bed.
Here's a sneak peak at our new beds.
WHAT WAS PLANTED: Bush beans (short maturing Romano Purpiat) and Purple TeePee went into the ground. Marigolds and Celosia found a place and a row of Purple Lady Bok Choy was seeded in our pallet garden.
UPPER GARDEN We completed mulching in about 100 feet of trellised plantings in our upper garden project this past Thursday. We used cardboard topped with thick bark mulch.
Lot’s of mattock and shovel action clearing the bed. But grateful for lovely spring days with cool breezes and Nikolai’s young strong back helping out on this one!
As of today, irrigation lines have been modified and tested in the fenced garden plot at home!
