Subject: Avocado Leaves

GARDEN GREETINGS, FRIEND!

We’re still keeping the dehydrator running round the clock and this week it’s mountain mint, (some of which actually dried perfectly on the plant before we could get to it), avocado leaves and more gynura procumbens, all of which we’re enjoying as health-boosting teas and homemade "vitamin water".

GROWING AVOCADO PLANTS IN POTS

We’re growing avocados in pots in zone 7a, so indoors in winter. While they’re old enough to bear fruit now they haven’t yet, but they’re full of healthy green foliage.

So when a friend told us about the Mexican tradition of using avocado leaves in cooking we immediately started researching the edible and medicinal benefits of avocado leaves, which you can find in this new article:

Uses and Benefits of Avocado Leaves

we’re now enjoying daily servings of tea and infused water from the avocado leaves.

ARE YOU GROWING AVOCADOS IN POTS?

Are you growing avocados in pots and successful fruiting? If so, we’d love to hear your tips on that as that’s our next thing to research on the avocado topic.

CHOPPING WOOD

On the homestead we’ve been chopping lots of wood from felled trees in our woods and stockpiling it for stoking the wood burning water stove. The water stove needed some maintenance repairs and new piping recently as it’s over 30 years old, but it’s great to have that done now.

It's funny how the appliances and repairs seem to come around like dominos, but once repairs and upgrades are done, it's always a good feeling to be able to check that off the list.

We’ve enjoyed an unseasonably mild week of weather with a few days in shorts, but then that’s the nice thing about middle NC… the weather changes often and is rarely boring.

Okay, friend, all for now. Hoping all is well with you. Drop us a line anytime. We always read and respond.

From our hearts and garden to yours,

Coleman and LeAura Alderson
