Thomas Edison is credited with the famous adage: “Genius is 1 percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration.” The last 6 months were the time for perspiration for the FFAA finalists. Its been a productive time for all them with lots of sales traction and flow of investment capital and customer capital. 

For their growing fan base and for those who missed the party, it’s never too late to catch up with these finalists and winners. So as the year comes to a close we caught up with the cohort of finalists to see what they have been up to.

Alchemy Foodtech

Shortly after announcing their victory at SLINGSHOT @ SWITCH in September, Alchemy made headlines  again closing a 7-figure funding in a Pre-Series A round led by Singapore’s Heritas and SEEDS Capital.

They will be using the funding towards building the team and improving their tech and manufacturing capabilities. 

Amai Proteins

Collaborations with large F&B corporations are in full swing for Ilan Samish and his team. Adding Danone and the Strauss Group to their MNC roster Amai is working on a number of new beverage and dairy applications.
With SodaStream, they formulated a 60%-sugar reduced lemon soda and an 80% sugar-reduced orange soda. 

BioPrime AgriSolutions

On the commercial front BioPrime launched its products in 2 new states in India adding to their previous 8. Quarterly sales hit a high at 100MT in this quarter adding revenues of USD 150K.
Industry recognition is growing with three new accolades:
Awarded the 1st Prize at the Agripreneur Accelerator Program in India.
Selected for the prestigious Ignite program, a 2-week intensive business management program at Judge Business School, Cambridge.
They are also finalists in the on-going National Bio Enterprise Competition in India.

Bioworks

At the time plastic ban is on all the lips, Bioworks confirms its high relevance and has received funding from Japanese investors - DIP Corporation and TBM Co.
The fundraising has allowed for them to further scale the technology and extend its range of products with the pipeline having exciting biodegradable products like: heat resistant straws, plastic bags, toothbrush and shampoo bottles as well as Styrofoam.

BLH Aqua Technology

BLH conducted two successful trials in two very different parts of the world, with two very different crops.
The first was a cannabis trial in the US where yield increased a further 5%, taking their technologies yield impact to a 43% increase. The revenues from the cannabis market are nearing USD 100K. The second was a leafy greens trial in Taiwan, a first in the country, where yields increased by 21%. 

FIB-SOL Life Technologies

After closing a funding round with leading angel investors in India, FIB-SOL has now crossed the mark of 100 acres of farms using their nanofiber biofertiliser, not only in India but also in South East Asia.
The construction work of their manufacturing plant has begun to cater to the rising demand from these markets. A signaling factor is them receiving commercial orders from large scale planters such as the Tata Group. 

OneCrop

After emerging as the winner of the FFAA 2018 in May, four months later OneCrop closed an investment from one of the largest agricultural companies in Australia – The Twynam Group. 

A recent trial with CSIRO showed results with yield increases of 25-50% in cotton and a 15% increase in water efficiency. 
And 2019 is already looking stellar as a 1000 hectares trial in the Xinjiang province kicks off, signaling 2020 as the year of large scale production. 

PureSpace

With a new funding from Seoul National University topped up by a R&D Grant from the government PureSpace is now engaging in pre-sales of its product with fruit production and distribution companies.
Less food wastage, more fruits & vegetables for our plates, with PureSpace this is not a distant promise as their trials with a leading ASEAN fruit producers have yielded great results. 


Shenzhen Xiaozao

After 5 industry trade shows back to back, they have letters of intent from top industry players and are on the brink of rolling out six unique products that sustainable alternatives to fish for the ever rising demand of Omega-3.

Terragen Biotech

Terragen added a few more range of specialty crops to a long list of applications of their soil conditioner Great Land®, which now include vines, vegetables, bananas, macadamias and avocados among many others. 

After successful completion of trials Mylo has been commercially launched in Australia and NZ. The product provides a weight gain advantage resulting from a better developed gastrointestinal system without an increase in total feed intake.
XRE Corporation

After a round of product enhancements, the XRE team is commencing mass production of its “Stay-On-Tab” in China to cater to the rising consumer demands of their solution in Korea. Also. a new series of applications are coming to the market in the ready-to-drink coffee segment.
