We gave you a little hint last time that there was something new "brewing in Asia" - our ID Capital China team has spearheaded the establishment of the China Agri-Food Biomanufacturing Alliance (AFBA).
Founded with the goal of becoming China's most important biomanufacturing community for the food and agriculture sector, AFBA is an industry-led association, with the ambition to bring together thought leaders from the biotechnology and food and agriculture sectors.
It could not be timelier! The Biden-Harris Administration has also just announced new bold goals and priorities that will catalyze action - both on the inside and outside of government to advance American biotechnology and biomanufacturing. This reports outlines a vision for what is possible with the power of biotechnology and biomanufacturing, and R&D needs to achieve this ambitious vision.
“Advantages that biomanufacturing brings perfectly match the agrifood sector’s needs for raw materials, production processes and outputs. The current applications developed so far are just the tip of the iceberg for the agrifood industry” says Steven Zhang, Managing Director of ID Capital China. And we couldn't agree more.
Biotechnology when applied to agrifood comes with a lot of promises - and expectations. More so, now, at a time when we are grappling with climate change. With significant expertise in synthetic biology and key technological building blocks that enable biomanufacturing, access to feedstock, and to a large pool of talent, China is poised to play a major role as a biomanufacturing country.
Join us at FFA23 as this finds a spot on the agenda with a panel discussing how "China's agrifood biotech have a transformative impact on our food systems".
