FRESH New London
Dear Friends,

What is that yellow blob in the sky? It hurts to look at and it radiates this strange heat that warms and activates us. It is lovely and a little frightening? Could it be the orb called "sun?" Could it be here for longer than a few fleeting minutes at a time? Nope, it just started raining, again!

Perhaps, we are finally starting to enter the season called "spring" and can stop worrying that a late frost will kill all the gorgeous seedlings.

We'll keep our fingers crossed and our eyes on the thermometer.

In this edition of our newsletter, we share a few of our active projects and invite you to join us every Saturday for the foreseeable future to help grow an Edible New London that is vibrant, bountiful and just!

We also tell you about some of the great plants we are potting up for the BIG Plant Sale and make sure that you have Saturday, May 25th at 10am on your calendar, because that is when you can get those great plants.

Until Then,

Let's Get Growing,

Getting to Know Your Seedlings

BIG Plant Sale. Saturday, May 25, 10-1pm. Hope to see you!
Snack Beds are Popping!
Watch Out for Edible New London, Coming to a Street Near You!
Picture this. The privet hedge comes down. The apple trees, long choked with suckers, get pruned and restored. In the place of a "privacy hedge," the community gets together to build "welcoming boxes," to be filled and planted and then harvested by anyone walking by-- no price tag, no shame, no questions ask (or anyone to ask them). You don't have to paint a mental picture of this image, you can just walk down one of our main streets to see our work!

Now that we did all that, FRESH will fill and plant the boxes and our friends at Ledge Light will water the plants and keep the boxes maintained. By the end of next week, you should see another round of transformation in this spot, so keep your eyes opened!
GETTING TO KNOW YOUR SEEDLINGS!
Why do you buy seedlings from FRESH New London?

Is it because we don't try to sell you tomatoes in March like the big box stores?

Or because the proceeds support our youth program and you can feel their good energy at all our events?

Or because we grow heirlooms and hard to find varietals?

Or because you have asked us to grow okra or huacatay or aji dulce, herbs and vegetables that are part of your cultural heritage and cuisine?

Or because you can walk to our plant sale and put the plants in ground so close to where they grew from seeds under the close attention of Farmer Sean and the close care Junior Staff members Enna and Luis?

Or some other reason?

Check out some of the cool varietals you can get at the plant sale in 9 days time!
"What are those?" you ask.

Clock wise from top left, they are:  Pink Zinnias, Pruden's Purple Tomato, Aji Amarillo Peppers and Mexican Sour Gherkin Cucumbers.

All of these, PLUS dozens more varieties will be for sale to support FRESH New London. For more info, see below:
